Man in Gym Changing Room

NC for this because I know it's a controversial topic and I'm not sure how to feel now it's actually happened.

I went to the gym today and there was a man in the female changing area.

He was wearing a swimming costume designed for women, however, was very obviously male.

I had a look online and there have been a few reports of this happening in this particular gym. There are some tweets which haven't been responded to ranging from last year to last month.

Obviously, I didn't confront him and when I left there were no staff members at reception, however, I am not sure whether to say something next time.

What is the set up of the changing room OP? So you have the option of cubicles or have the gym forced you into a situation where you have to be in a naked communal mixed sex space labelled as .'for women'

Go ahead and report it but be prepared to be told:

To educate yourself.
That you are a transphobic bigot.

To be honest, if she is genuinely transitioning then she should think more like a woman and NOT use the changing rooms because she should understand how it would make a woman uneasy.

Walk with your feet and tell them why. Put it on social media and let people make of it what they will.

At the moment, this gym is prioritising male autogynephilia and male privilege over female safety and comfort. I certainly wouldn't want to give them a penny of my money - they can fuck off with the usual "BE KIND" and "TWAW" shite. A fully intact adult male in the ladies is in there for sexual reasons and people are actually enabling this shite.

I would leave my gym if they started with this bullshit but fortunately ours is a military-heavy one and I'm willing to bet fewer of these perverts will give it a go with the WAGS and kids of military men or to go up against military women.

Please say something, it’s only by women saying something everytime it happens that gyms will eventually change their policies

The Equalities Act 2010 has sex as a protected characteristic. That means single sex areas such as toilets and changing rooms are legally protected. That is sex, not gender identity.

Unfortunately a Scottish judge has just ruled that if a man has a Gender Recognition Certificate then his sex under the Equalities Act is female 😥

How do you know for certain it was a man? Surely you'd need some evidence to complain?

I don't think it should matter what the hell their policy is on this. It made you uncomfortable, so you complain. Or their policy will never change.

I’d actually rather see a penis hanging out than it being in a female swimming costume. There’s a guy that goes to a bar near me, wears make up, high heels very effiminate but wears tight leggings with a crop top and that just turns my stomach.

They're a man who is pissing all over women's boundaries. So no. Not a nice person.

No decent man would go into a womens space and make her scared or uncomfortable. It is not our job to validate these men, unless of course you live in Scotland....

There is a Male at my gym who is trans and recently has breast implants and now believes because of this and his name change he should be able to use female changing rooms. I would be horrified if this was agreed and change gyms because I suffered trauma as a child as many other women could have and I would not be ok seeing a naked man I'm a women's safe place.@BCBird

Absolutely complain. Ask what their policy is on single sex changing rooms. Not single gender, single sex. Maybe check the current law on it before speaking to them, so you have something to quote.

Be clear with them on what outcome you are seeking.

1. Is it their policy that intact transwomen are allowed to use the female changing area? If so they should put a warning on the door that the room is not single sex and should provide separate changing area for women who cannot, for religious or other protected equality act beliefs (such as gender critical beliefs), change in front of men. Otherwise I think they’re probably in breach of the Equality Act.
2. Is it their policy that the room is single sex and that transwomen should change elsewhere eg in disabled? If so please can they check CCTV to learn which member is breaking the rules and cancel that person’s membership.

Also: he was not a nice person. I’m female, my swimsuit comes down to my knees and to my wrists. The only reason he’s got his balls wedged into a high cut swimsuit is to make women uncomfortable. It’s a milder version of flashing.
