Am I going mad, should it not be “I feel for you”? I keep hearing and reading this. I don’t like it. “I feel you” sounds weird!!!

I feel for you = I sympathise, that must be hard
I feel you = I really relate to this!

No, it shouldn't. It means something totally different to "I feel for you". I feel for you implies sympathy. I feel you means I get you, or I feel the same way.

It doesn't mean "I feel for you", it means "I hear what you're saying and understand your situation."

I don't feel you. I like it!

You might not like evolving language or this specific phrase. But, it does not mean the same as, “I feel for you”.

I’ve never heard ‘I feel you’ as described by others either. Might need to get out more.

I hate it too. Sounds like "I grope you" to me! (And before anyone says anything, I know that's not what it means.) I'd much rather someone said "I get it" if they're trying to say they relate to something, or even just "I know what you mean".
