When Labour isn’t the magic bullet people think it will be? When everything is still fucked and they have no money to plug the gap the tories have created?

Dunno. We'll vote for someone else next time?

Exasperatednow · 05/11/2023 05:23

I think.people generally aren't that stupid (but then again Brexit).
I do think it will be better than the tories siphoning money off to their mates and you never know it might get some money back.

LadyMacB · 05/11/2023 06:00

So we should just stick with the current shit show because of your completely unbiased crystal ball gazing?

Yeah right.

Its time for someone else to have a chance at solving the many, many problems this country faces.

If they don’t do a good job, there’s another election in 5 years.

ssd · 05/11/2023 08:52

No one believes that any party will be a magic bullet.

But years of tory government has left the country in an utter mess but made the rich richer.

People have had enough.

BogHag · 05/11/2023 08:55

I don’t think many people believe labour is a magic bullet but they do have different priorities, a different ideology and a different approach to the economy so it’s clear that some things are going to change, even if we aren’t actually going to immediately wake up in a socialist utopia.

Whataretheodds · 05/11/2023 08:55

Who thinks Labour is a magic bullet? I hope they do a good job of explaining what a dire position 13 years of Conservative rule have put us in, and articulate how they plan to address it but it's not going to be a quick fix.

In the position we're in I'd rather have competent leaderships with wmpathy and personal integrity than the morally vacuous idiots we've have for the last few years.

CurlewKate · 05/11/2023 09:47

Who thinks Labour is going to be a magic bullet? Like many of the Left I think they are the least worst option.

CurlewKate · 05/11/2023 09:48

And I'd like a government with a little integrity.

Lifesd · 05/11/2023 22:12

When I posted this I think I thought more about will we see a move to a different party political system, will different parties like the greens and reform start winning by-elections etc

Not until we change the first past the post system, which no party in power will be incentivised to do

The alternative vote trajedy would have been the biggest shake up to British politics in living memory, but the dismal campaign was a dire failure and was unable to overcome the 'it's too complicated' rhetoric

Fionaville · 05/11/2023 22:20

What will happen? Absolutely nothing. Because this country has been gaslighted, lied to and severely let down by this government, for over a decade and we've done absolutely nothing about it.
Nobody thinks Labour are the magic bullet, just that surely they can do better than the self serving arsewipes we've got now! So, nobody is going to take to the streets for a political overhaul, if Labour don't make things any better.

GladAllOver · 05/11/2023 22:30

We just have to get rid of this shitheap government. Labour has to be given a chance to pull us out - but it will take many years.

Lifesd · 05/11/2023 23:00

But @GladAllOver how much patience will people really have? People are already seriously fed up - the last Labour government were able to take hold of a strong economy but by the time they left power austerity was the order of the day. I don’t feel I can vote for either or the main parties and I’m sure many feel the same.

The key word there is “last”. You won’t be getting the last Labour government. You’ll be getting this Labour government. I don’t mind that there isn’t a magic bullet. I don’t mind that it might take years and years and years. I just want a bunch of grown ups in charge.

Skyscrapers921 · 06/11/2023 10:04

I don't know of anyone who sees Labour as anything remotely magical

SallyWD · 06/11/2023 10:40

I don't think any party can magically make everything OK but I fundamentally disagree with so many of the conservatives right wing policies. I just want them out.

ComtesseDeSpair · 06/11/2023 10:44

They’ll do exactly the same as any other incoming government does: spend several years blaming the outgoing government for making their job virtually impossible, then the economic tide will turn a bit as it always does and the country will prosper, for which they’ll take credit, then it will downturn and they’ll eventually be voted out, rinse and repeat with their replacements.
