to be fed up with the saga of my bathroom/kitchen?

Back in 2006 we realised we had a burst pipe under our bathroom. We had to have floor tiles up, panel off bath (which had rotted), plaster removed off wall by back door. Kitchen was affected as well (our bathroom is downstairs) and we had to have a cupboard removed, flooring taken up and part of wall removed there as well. All done by insurance company. Or rather their contractors adn subcontractors.

Insurance would replace damaged stuff but not replace pipes (which had corroded). Fair enough. We got pipes replaced.

It was checked that it had all dried out. And we were told (by contractors) that we would have it all back by christmas (2006) if not Jan 2007. Their subcontractors (the builders) would be in contact. There were a few other issues with builders, but nothing major.

They weren't. We rang the contractors several times. Over 18 months!

Fast forward to a few months ago. We contacted insurance company -they had closed claim as it had been so long! They reopened. Contractors still would not contact us. Insurance company sacked them and got new firm.

MAn came round to see what needed doing (about 2 months ago). There was a disagreement over the work (they didn't want to put back cupboard - we insisted - we won). They come today.

WE had given all details of flooring removed and they said several times that they had ordered it. Man came today to fit flooring in bathroom - no flooring. He went to tile place to order it. Is no longer being made . WE have some of tiles left on bottom of wall so wanted matching. Not his fault, but company's. It can take up to 3 weeks to order tiles for floor, when we find one.

Asked him to check whether kitchen had been ordered. It hadn't. Now man coming tomorrow with samples? We gave them details of our kitchen flooring - which IS still being made. Why the hell do I want samples?

AM fuming now.

This debacle has taken over 18 months - no flooring in kitchen/bathroom - just dirty, sticky concrete that I can't clean.

AIBU to be really pissed off with new company. Especially as they know what happened with last one. God knows when this is all going to be finished.

Oh and our heating bills have gone up quite a bit as result of this work as bathroom/kitchen/back door so drafty

This raises an interesting issue with insurance - should we buy based on price or service. This lot sound like a shambles.

Sorry for your trauma - stuff like this just goes on and on and on...let it all out here!

THe insurance company isn't too bad tbh. They have given us special no to contact with any probs now.

It's the contractors that are the main issue.

And of course we've had to clear all the stuff from kitchen/bathroom - I don't want it all in my dining room for months. COuple of weeks fine, but any longer and it'll do my head in.

even more now.

They have replaced our (half decent plywood) bath panel with a really cheap and nasty plastic one (supposed to be like for like). Also the plastic screw heads (dp has just come home and checked) are so low the tiles won't go under them. Also you won't be able to remove the bath panel with the tiles in place. Unless you break it - which shouldn't be too hard

All our piping is under there (rather than under the concrete floor as before - we had that replaced)). It HAS to be accessible in our opinion (as well as that of our lovely plumber). Half the problems were caused by the piping not being accessible.

Have no idea if anyone is coming tomorrow or when they are next coming, who is doing what work (bloke today was only contracted for part of it).

And I bet they are going to try and fob us off with cheap flooring tomorrow (or whenever the kitchen flooring guy turns up).

And there is more probs with tiles in bathroom.

I have had enough.

All I want is a finished kitchen and bathroom - is that too much to ask?

Am fuming atm.
