EVERYONE is a drug dealer

Bear with me…

I have name changed for this for seemingly obvious reasons. Yesterday, I was at the hairdressers getting my usual weekly services chatting as usual to my hairdresser - who every single week I’m there is dating a new drug dealer. She is very much a “glam” type. Neither of these things are uncommon in my city.

She then turns to the woman next to me and starts chatting about said woman’s partner and when he’s going to be on day release from prison and how he’s getting XYZ done cosmetically but it’s ok because the prison thinks he has a business so the money won’t be from dealing. (In other words, he’s still very much running an enterprise from behind bars). Again not uncommon in my area.

it got me thinking, in my city almost everyone has some sort of connection to dealing drugs. at all levels. I’m not exaggerating, I can’t think of a single person that doesn’t either deal themselves or is close friends with someone who does. All the women are dressed head to toe in designer, surgery, etc. the males have big cars, watches, designer clothes. It’s quite rare to see anyone under 30 without this aesthetic.

the 35+ generation maybe not so much but I would say all people I know in this age bracket absolutely have ties to someone who is a dealer.

before anyone comments that people may have the money for this aesthetic through legitimate reasons, I myself have a “flash” car, designer clothes, cosmetic procedures etc. but through running businesses and my partner being a well payed professional. I’m talking specifically about people that I know are dealers, and when I was thinking about it last night I was actually baffled how there seems to be so many.

PS I know there are people that work to have what they have, I’m talking about my city specifically being particularly dense with criminal activity and I’m wondering if it’s a regional thing or not. Where you are, is this the case?

This thread has made me
wonder if the nice woman in her eighties a few doors down is holding guns for the area’s gangsters and the nice young couple next door but one are dealing drugs out of their toddler’s buggy. Maybe even the local church is in on it and the priest and nuns on their last charitable mission to South America were really acting as drugs mules.

Lol on in the last 2 days one house has been torched in croxteth and last night shooting in speke, bur those amongst us in thr city have never known anyone or witnessed anything lol

I live in what is thought of as a posh part of London and one of my hairdressers went to prison for dealing drugs (not to me). It used to be well known which pub to go to buy drugs and the local tube station car park was used after dark until they put in a camera operated paying system. Many years ago, DHs flat mate was dealing cannabis and eventually went to jail. Drug dealers look like you, me and our partners.

If everyone is a dealer, who are they dealing to? Isn't the market oversaturated?

YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/11/2023 12:28

I’ve never dealt drugs or known a dealer. I haven’t even really seen any drugs!

However I have an acquaintance with a VERY flash lifestyle. Trips to NYC, Rolex watches, designer EVERYTHING 2 x £60,000 cars. She’s a PA and he works in sales in a sofa shop. So obvious it comes from drugs. A few people in that circle (a relative’s circle of friends) are the same judging by their social media posts

I didn't think I did until the time the police raided a neighbour's house... very naice, middle-class estate...

From the state of some of the zombies staggering around the city centre, there's plenty of drugs dealers around.

Do you think the people at the top of the hierarchy actually touch the drugs? The actual dealers who sell to the addicts are at the bottom of the chain. The lawyers, accountants, and their employers are at the top. The property management and money laundering takes a lot of expertise, as does running the cover businesses. The restaurants here, for example, need "refurbishing" every few months and change hands with monotonous regularity. That takes a lot of organisation and other businesses to keep on top of and they all have to be under the control of the organisation.
A bit of weed isn't really the issue, but the cocaine trade is worth millions.
It seems that the market isn't over saturated at all.

No. Not like that at all here. Where do you live? Hollyoaks? Eastenders? I think you need to find some new friends.

I'm intrigued by dance wear shops being a common front for organised crime. Are we talking ballet shoes and leotards, or a different kind of shop? What else is likely to be a front, so I can take my blinkers off. My local florist? The dog groomers?

"I'm intrigued by dance wear shops being a common front for organised crime."

They're not. No more likely than any other shop. The pp who said there was one near them has found the only example I'm aware of, and that's with 20+ years of experience in going into umpteen damn dancewear shops, and knowing hundreds of dancers and their families. If there was something 'going on' then I'd know.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 07/11/2023 17:14

Yes. I included the dancewear shop to make the point that, in my area, it touches everything and is difficult to avoid.
Not that it's a very common kind of front....because I'm sure it probably isn't.

What’s your point? I bet there have been shootings in other parts of the country too in the last week. Just because there has been crime in the city doesn’t mean everyone who lives there knows someone associated with it and doesn’t explain why as soon as drugs are mentioned that people jumped to the conclusion that the thread had to be about Liverpool - even after the OP said it isn’t!

As I’ve said, I live in Liverpool and didn’t even know there had been a house torched or a shooting this week!
