EVERYONE is a drug dealer

Bear with me…

I have name changed for this for seemingly obvious reasons. Yesterday, I was at the hairdressers getting my usual weekly services chatting as usual to my hairdresser - who every single week I’m there is dating a new drug dealer. She is very much a “glam” type. Neither of these things are uncommon in my city.

She then turns to the woman next to me and starts chatting about said woman’s partner and when he’s going to be on day release from prison and how he’s getting XYZ done cosmetically but it’s ok because the prison thinks he has a business so the money won’t be from dealing. (In other words, he’s still very much running an enterprise from behind bars). Again not uncommon in my area.

it got me thinking, in my city almost everyone has some sort of connection to dealing drugs. at all levels. I’m not exaggerating, I can’t think of a single person that doesn’t either deal themselves or is close friends with someone who does. All the women are dressed head to toe in designer, surgery, etc. the males have big cars, watches, designer clothes. It’s quite rare to see anyone under 30 without this aesthetic.

the 35+ generation maybe not so much but I would say all people I know in this age bracket absolutely have ties to someone who is a dealer.

before anyone comments that people may have the money for this aesthetic through legitimate reasons, I myself have a “flash” car, designer clothes, cosmetic procedures etc. but through running businesses and my partner being a well payed professional. I’m talking specifically about people that I know are dealers, and when I was thinking about it last night I was actually baffled how there seems to be so many.

PS I know there are people that work to have what they have, I’m talking about my city specifically being particularly dense with criminal activity and I’m wondering if it’s a regional thing or not. Where you are, is this the case?

Well OP I've hope you learned your lesson from the great and good of MN.

You're living in a sad, scouse bubble; entirely irrespective of whether you live there or not.
You need to move, immediately. Frankly your friends are shit, your area is shit and your social circle leaves a lot to be desired and you should be ashamed of yourself

Furthermore; going to the hairdresser twice a week is beyond the pale and we know this because it isn't the usual behaviour of a mumsnet user and belies your type as a retro, profligate scumbag.

Henceforth, never darken our metaphorical doorsteps with your proletariat ramblings derived from your myopic world view.

And for the absolute avoidance of doubt, in the unlikely case that we haven't been clear enough: We are better than you 😉

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 what a lunatic. Thanks for the laugh hun. Glad a drunken saddo thinks they’re better. You’ve just reminded me - I need to get some wine in! X

Thanks again to all that have answered sensibly! PS very pleased it’s prompted some of you to treat yourselves to a blow dry - you’ll never go back. Enjoy 😉

Bloody hell @CommonOrNot thought you'd recognise a bit of sarkiness when you saw it, what with being a raving scouse druggy and all that 😅

ChelseeDagger · 04/11/2023 20:11

Oh but you're more than welcome for the laugh...although I think a few others on this thread may need it more than you...

Where doesn't have drug dealers?
No one has actually named a place yet.

I don't need to name where I live but it's a fairly wealthy area. Yes I believe my town has drugs, I'm just saying that I don't know any personally.

Lilacanemone · 04/11/2023 20:19

Interesting that people who find it weird that someone says everyone they know is either a drug dealer or good friends with one are accused of living in myopic worlds. The same could be said for not knowing anyone that has nothing to do in any way with drug dealers. Can’t be mixing with many different people if they are all into the same way of life.

Milkybarsareonmeeeee · 04/11/2023 20:43

@gotomomo oh that’s means if you haven’t herd of it . Then it means it just doesn’t happen .
People whom can’t see past their own noses are the worst kind of ignorant .

CardamomGarden · 04/11/2023 20:44

I liked the perpetuum mobile comment on the first page - I’ve had a couple of drug dealers as neighbours in different places (one was very discreet, the other a dim character who attracted trouble to our otherwise quiet street) and neither was driving a flash car, that’s for sure. Renting a modest terraced house in one case and a room in a shared house in the other. I saw the supplier of one of them once and he didn’t seem to be leading a very glamorous lifestyle either.

I well believe there are users and petty dealers everywhere, but people funding lavish lifestyles from dealing are going to be a much smaller proportion. I’ve certainly never met or known anyone living the sort of lifestyle described in the op.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 04/11/2023 20:52

I live in Liverpool.

This is not something I recognise at all, but if I'm honest I don't really pay attention to anyone. It could be there's loads of dealing on my estate (I live in a nice bit of a rough area). I know the mum's from school I know are not taking or dealing!

(Although having said that, I have all three in secondary school now so don't know any of those parents).

I'd treat myself to a weekly blowdry if I hadn't blown that budget on a Dyson Grin

Nagado · 04/11/2023 21:08

I think dealers and users are like rats; you’re never more than a few yards away from one. I love how so many of you are outraged at the suggestion that you know anyone involved in buying or selling drugs. If I owned one, I’d bet my house that you do. You just don’t realise it because professionals who live in big houses in nice areas and ‘only’ smoke now and again when the children are away on school trips don’t tend to publicise their drug use.

WillowCraft · 04/11/2023 21:13

HJ40 · 04/11/2023 10:02

So what did the police say when you reported these people?

Presuming this is Liverpool, the police are corrupt and not generally trusted (things may have improved somewhat but that was the case in the 80s/90s/00s)

It's all the suggestions to the OP of moving that I don't get. Move where?
I don't expect anyone to name their location, I am just curious if anyone can suggest anywhere they think is drug free.
I also live in/near a wealthy area. I don't know any drug dealers but I am fairly sure my kids know people at school who could access them for me if I wanted.

LadyMacB · 04/11/2023 21:29

I don’t know any drug dealers or taken illegal drugs. However, I do know people who occasionally take recreational drugs. I assume they buy them from a dealer?

Amy8 · 05/11/2023 06:17

Still loving how so many on this chat think they don't know any drug dealers or people who take recreational / illegal drugs

You know them

Also it doesn't necessarily mean drug abuse so perhaps that's why you can't think of anyone.

I think people tend to live in bubbles, often unintentionally. This is obviously your bubble. Some people know lots of people who have been in prison, some know none at all.

Personally if it were me and my hairdresser was talking about a drug dealing boyfriend I don’t think I’d be able to hide my shock and I certainly wouldn’t ever be back.

Also clearly a large percentage of people can’t be mixed up in dealing and very wealthy from it - who are they making their money from? Presumably to make enough money to have flashy cars and designer things they will need to be taking a lot of money from people hooked on drugs and not making money from it.

Depends what the substance is
Depends where they are dealing
And to whom

seafronty · 05/11/2023 06:35

Now let's be fair here. I'm all for extra judicial execution of drug dealers. Which party is offering that in their manifesto? I'll vote them. A single bullet round the back of the police station, and bulldozed in to the same open grave as the XL Bullies are in. Toodle pip.

Or just legalise and regulate drugs so the drug dealers are automatically put out of business.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 05/11/2023 07:22

I’m in South London & I know where I’d hang around if I wanted to find a drug dealer. Although as far as I know I don’t know any.

Also don’t have any friends who are into Botox, fillers & surgery stuff.

Justleaveitblankthen · 05/11/2023 08:31

Before I finished reading you first post, I knew it would be Liverpool.
But I would say as much for the descriptions of the lasses as anything else.
Not judging, just daily observation.

Though in Liverpool's defence, the area I work is very posh and a footballer's enclave.

KateMiddletonsExtensions · 05/11/2023 08:52

Remember Ashley Dale? Worked for the local council in a normal boring job but looked like the women the OP described and had the same sort of boyfriend and "social circles". Look what happened to her. This is what these stupid women are playing with.

Westwindworries · 05/11/2023 08:58

If everyone is dealing drugs, who are they dealing to?

How do they find customers if all their potential customers are dealers themselves?

Twentypastfour · 05/11/2023 09:04

I don’t really understand this though.

Let’s say they are selling substance xyz and the average punter spends 10k a year on their xyz. They would still need say, 10 punters giving them 10k a year each to have any kind of half flashy life? So let’s assume in this population that EVERYONE is buying or selling, it’s still then only 9% of people who are dealers earning a lot of money. 91% of people are net giving their money to the dealers. No? In order to make money as a “business” you need customers. So the OP seems to live in a bubble where she knows lots of the people making money.. then there must be a (much bigger?) bubble of people using and not selling, or trying to sell but not selling much and using significantly more than they sell that she’s not in. And then a bubble of people who are not mixed up in any of this at all.

Twentypastfour · 05/11/2023 09:06

Yes EXACTLY!! If everyone is a dealer then who are they making money off?

It would only be in a country which produces / supplies the drugs in the first place where almost everyone could be making money on drugs not spending. We are a net consumer.
