To think that MNHQ should remove long AI generated posts?

I've been on MN a long time, 14 years. I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

It's now filled with stupidly long AI generated posts. I believe people are posting to build up a history so they can advertise products. Maybe its just to make MN unusable. In which case It's working.

AIBU to think MNHQ could zap the over long threads to improve this?

This morning I analysed an 800 word paragraph free super boring "first time poster", surprise surprise it came out 87% likely to be AI generated.

There are 2 posts today mentioning a particular product (homewares won't say which). You can often tell when people are posting advertising threads. I'm not saying that this can be stopped.

It's always been full of trolls but at least they were entertaining. For example the Friday night parking thread or creative writing relationship board post that runs to several threads. I recognised the BS but enjoyed the fast pacing, plot development, cast of characters and nicknames given. There don't seem to be as many creative writing trolls posting for 1,000 post threads and a loyal following now. Just super dull epic posts.

I open them, scroll a little because you can tell from the first few lines they aren't genuine. Then may hit YABU or just give up without reading.

Yanbu OP. I think we've both been on a similar thread before and I completely agree.

But I think (don't quote me) that there was a similar thread in Site Stuff not long ago and HQ basically said "like it or lump it".

I wish they’d stop taking posts down unless they’re offensive. If they are boring they’ll sink relatively quickly off the board, and if their entertaining then I lose a drama that I’ve been invested in!
I don’t think deleting the post bothers the “troll” it does wind me up though!

There was a time when HQ would let us keep particularly entertaining troll threads to play with.

Although I think Brian from Hull was the only troll to ever make it to Classics.

Do you remember that woman who claimed her teen dd was pregnant? It was years ago. She went through a whole journey. Literally by the end , she'd managed to have a mini break to a windswept sea side town where she was taking long walks on remote beaches and thinking about the direction her life was going to take and changed her name from something despairing to something hopeful.

People were gutted when it turned out to be fiction. It was early on in my mumsnet use so I didn't spot it and was agog with everyone else. It taught me to be wary but also to avoid treating people's lives like entertainment.

Now I work on the rule that if it sounds like fiction it probably is. Which doesn't necessarily make a thread unreadable.

But wall to wall obvious AI makes it really difficult to use MN. Are HQ just thinking traffic is traffic? At some point real users will move on and it will just be bots talking to trolls for advertising purposes.
