'Blitzed the house from top to bottom...'

...'and it's only 10am'

How?! I see this so much on SM from friends and family, I admit I'm not very good at cleaning and probably take a hodge-podge approach but I can't imagine anyone cleaning their whole house in a few hours.

Is it me or aibu to think it's not possible?

Who cares. Like it and move on. It's great for them but no need for you to feel any different about how you do things. Everyone's different with different challenges and priorities.

WetBandits · 03/11/2023 20:11

Nope! I am so easily distracted that I just couldn’t do it. We’ve broken the cleaning down into small daily chunks so the whole house never really needs a ‘big clean’ as it’s all done throughout the week. We also sweep the kitchen and bathroom floors every night (cat litter trays are in the bathroom and they kick it everywhere so does need a daily sweep!) and make sure the sofa cushions and blankets are tidied before we go to bed.

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 03/11/2023 20:12

The only way I’d be able to do this is with the aid of a skip. Maybe if you’re a minimalist it’s possible.

Guibhyl · 03/11/2023 20:13

YANBU. If I wanted to actually blitz my entire house then it would take me a good 3 days 😂 I’ve stopped noticing the dust now and given up caring to a certain extent.

Wwwnothingdotcom · 03/11/2023 20:14

Powerful drugs 😂

bossybloss · 03/11/2023 20:15

I honestly really wish I could! This afternoon I opened all downstairs windows to air the place, then spent about an hour and a half on bathrooms, kitchen and living room.. then got bored 😐

Mrsjayy · 03/11/2023 20:15

My mum used to be like this she's slowed down a bit with age but still "blitzes?" Her house most days. I guess some people are motivated to get through it. I'm a procrastinator so I've half jobs everywhere.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 03/11/2023 20:16

To me 'blitzing' means deep cleaning, so moving all the furniture, wiping skirting boards and dusting ceiling lights etc - not your every day 'keep on top of things' clean. I can see how you can hoover all the rooms to a presentable level, wipe down the bathroom etc and make the house generally acceptable in a couple of hours, but not 'blitz'.

wafflingworrier · 03/11/2023 20:17

I time myself and have a reward waiting for me....sounds lame but it works.
Eg set 1 hour timer on kitchen oven, chocolate bar/20mins of telly as reward.

JuliaJohnstone · 03/11/2023 20:17

I can do this, it's just a case of having to do it quickly as I don't have enough time to spend hours on it. It's basically put shit away, dust/wipe shit, hoover shit, done.

Summermeadowflowers · 03/11/2023 20:17

The two cleaners we had to do a ‘deep clean’ of a four bed house apparently did it in an hour and a half not bitter

Doggymummar · 03/11/2023 20:17

Blitz means ran round like a crazy person. I can do that every day in less than 20 mins in my house. Tomorrow is cleaning, and that takes two of us half a day

exerciseviligance · 03/11/2023 20:18

Well the term "blitzed" means different things to different people.

If someone has a generally tidy house to start with, they might only need to vacuum all rooms, make the beds, clean the bathroom and kitchen and they might say they've blitzed it. I could easily do those basics in an hour.

SundayAnon · 03/11/2023 20:18

I wonder what blitzing means in this context.

If it's: put things away, hoover, mop, wipe surfaces with relevant cleaner.

Then that sounds doable.

It if includes polishing or glass cleaning. Less so.

CremeEggThief · 03/11/2023 20:19

YANBU. It's people exaggerating as usual! They've probably run the hoover around, dusted the living room and cleaned the bathroom and that's it!🤣

speakout · 03/11/2023 20:20

Depends on the size of the house surely?

My first property was a very small city flat. Tiny rooms.
I could blitz the whole house easily in a couple of hours.

I now live in a 5 bed largeish house no way could I clean the whole house in just a few hours.
It would take me a couple of days to blitz the whole house,..

Atomickittyxx · 03/11/2023 20:20

I have four kids so if I blitzed my house it would take weeks possibly months 😂 I think biohazard suits would be required!!

meanypegs · 03/11/2023 20:20

I think this "blitzing" involves a degree of tidiness to start with. It would take me about a year to "blitz" my study alone. I would be dead before my house was "blitzed".

Lesina · 03/11/2023 20:20

Blitz means carpet bombing. Which to be honest I’d prefer to do to my house than deal with the utter horror of the youngest’s bedroom.

OhMyChickenDinner · 03/11/2023 20:21

My cleaner does ours in 3 hours. I guess it depends how big your house is and what needs doing? She’ll do things like skirting boards on a rotation, along with the usual stuff that’s done every week. So not starting from a complete shit tip which is what it would be if it was down to me.

NorrisToenail · 03/11/2023 20:21

I spent 5 hours cleaning today and I'm probably a quarter done, I didn't even get downstairs. Even my average sized bathroom (bath, separate shower, loo and sink) takes an hour and a half if you're doing the window ledges and floor. I think I need a cleaner

OP posts:
StarShipControl · 03/11/2023 20:21

They've probably done the bathrooms, stripped the beds, tidied, hoovered and mopped.
It's the tidying that probably takes them no time!

meanypegs · 03/11/2023 20:22

If it's: put things away, hoover, mop, wipe surfaces with relevant cleaner.

Then that sounds doable.

Um... as I said. This presupposes a degree of tidiness to start with. It would take me a year to find the mop, and then I'd have to look on You Tube to see what I'm supposed to do with it, and would go down a million rabbit holes and would forget that I was looking for.

LemongrassLollipop · 03/11/2023 20:24

Lies, all lies 😊

If it's done by 10am it's basic going over/straightening .... Not blitzing in my book which is proper scrubbing/ getting on your knees to get into nooks/crannies with a toothbrush and a cocktail stick

If it's really blitzed by 10am then it's those SM accounts where they clean already clean houses because they spend all day cleaning and they really need to get a life with a little more variety.

( but those houses do look amazing ...)

MabelQ · 03/11/2023 20:24

Growing up, we definitely could do that, since we lived a rather clutter-free life. Now, I couldn’t do that due to the size and complexity of our house (carpet vs hardwood, painted surfaces vs “scrubbable” ones, etc) and the amount of little people’s stuff on it! But if you mean “took it from lazy weekend to company ready”, I could do that if I was feeling motivated enough… and not perfectionist!
