Influencer kicked out of Starbucks for having scabies

A well known influencer called Elphaba was removed a Starbucks this week due to having scabies. Multiple people called the branch she was at informing the manager she has scabies. There seems to be some confusion as to whether she is on effective treatment for it.

Was the manager right to remove a paying customer from its premises?

What’s the company policy ?
Would they remove someone with chicken pox ?

You can recover without any treatment from chicken pox whereas you HAVE to take prescription meds to get rid of scabies. It won’t go naturally

DustyLee123 · 02/11/2023 16:49

Chicken pox is dangerous to some people.

GirrlCrush · 02/11/2023 16:49

Elphaba is awful and currently in a RL battle with Chelsea LeeArt. They do this to each other all the time

NotTheOtherMother · 02/11/2023 16:49

Scabies is a notifiable infection I think? Though my info may be out of date.

When I was a kid we had to wait to move into a house because the previous tenant had had scabies and the house was being treated.

I wouldn't want someone that infectious around me while I'm having a coffee!

KatBurglar · 02/11/2023 16:50

She had a contagious skin complaint, of course she shouldn't have been in a coffee shop!

(not that I know who she is, but the point stands for anyone)

GirrlCrush · 02/11/2023 16:51

Elphaba allegedly had a cream for it but fake Elohaba fans called the place up and said it hadn't yet cleared up

GirrlCrush · 02/11/2023 16:52

I wouldn't call Elphaba a influencer' though

AutumnComfort · 02/11/2023 16:52

If it's not infectious, how do you get it....?

Chicken pox is dangerous to some people.

Well yes

but so is lots of ailments

the difference is you cannot get rid of scabies naturally . You have to take prescription meds

Flickersy · 02/11/2023 16:52

I'm presuming this is the kind of thing where she puts her best compo face on and talks about how traumatised she is.

Don't you have to isolate with scabies until the infection is under control?

MidnightOnceMore · 02/11/2023 16:55

I don't think the coffee shop should respond to malicious reports.

I've no idea who these people are but this kind of unpleasant behaviour is not ok.

Redebs · 02/11/2023 16:55

It's not a notifiable disease and anyone sitting next to you on a train or in a cafe might have it. Horrible, itchy disease that can take a while to settle after the bugs are killed.

Easy to treat with cream from pharmacy.

Sounds like a lot of social media fuss for views.

No, you can go back to school the day after the first application of cream.

There is no mention of wider isolation n the NHS page (scan read it anyway).

TripleDaisySummer · 02/11/2023 16:57

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scabies/

This is the NHS - there not saying your confined to the house but does say You or your child can go back to work or school 24 hours after the first treatment.

Doesn't say it's a notifiable disease and for most it's a minor complaint.

There's not really any prolonged skin to skin contact at a Starbucks (there's not really any, is there?) and it's not a serious illness. So no, I don't think it was any Starbucks employees right to ask her to leave based on the information given.

Iamnotastick · 02/11/2023 17:11

Oh ive seen this on Tik Tok. They also called Selfridges as they were trying on trainers in Selfridges knowing they had scabies to grass them up.

They seem to have a very polarising views on them.

I wouldnt call them an influencer...its just a Tik Tok person who posts alot of crap for views and outrage.

MintJulia · 02/11/2023 17:12

Yes, of course.

Scabies is horribly infectious. If the influencer had any consideration for the people around her, she would have stayed at home, and certainly out of a place where people are eating.🙁

Frabbits · 02/11/2023 17:12

She should be removed simply for being an influencer. Fucking worthless.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 02/11/2023 17:13

Who?

HirplesWithHaggis · 02/11/2023 17:15

AutumnComfort · 02/11/2023 16:52

It's contagious - you have to be in contact. Like headlice.

Umph · 02/11/2023 17:16

How do people know about the scabies? Surely you realise you have scabies (or think you might have), phone the gp, get a prescription for cream, and job’s a good un’? I don’t think ‘tell people about it on tiktok’ is likely to be one of the PRE-treatment steps.

TomAllensWhiskMic · 02/11/2023 17:18

It's contagious but you need to have bodily contact to catch it. Or share a towel with someone who has it. You can't catch it just by being the same room as them.

My housemate had it at uni, the other 5 of us in the house didn't catch it. Her boyfriend did though.

Ponoka7 · 02/11/2023 17:25

Just had a Google, she? Slept on a mattress with no cover in a rental knowing they? Had scabies. I suppose it's the any publicity is good publicity, even if everyone is disgusted that they/s/he went to theatre knowing scabies was present and still untreated. Minging individual.

DelusionalBrilliance · 02/11/2023 17:29

Elphaba is vile! He’s a compulsive liar, manipulative, vengeful and dangerously unstable. I’d not have him near me with or without scabies 🤮
