Abandoned cat.....

My neighbour moved, left their cat behind, she's an outdoor cat anyway. She had a litter of kittens last year, owners took or rehomed the kittens but not mum. Anyway she is now living in my back garden most of the time and heavily pregnant again. RSPCA won't help a healthy stray.

Not an AIBU but WWYD?

Have you tried Cats Protection League, or your local Animal welfare? They may at least help with the cost of spaying so that the cat doesn't get pregnant again.

Unfortunately all the welfare groups are heaving at the seams with unwanted/neglected animals, and extremely short on funds, so they are limited in what they can do.

SerpentEndBench · 02/11/2023 12:05

Ask on Facebook for the local indie cat rescue places, and contact one of them to come and rescue her.

KeepJoggingOn · 02/11/2023 12:06

Cats Protection League are fantastic in my own experience. I would contact them.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/11/2023 12:06

I'd take her in, feed her and love her. Poor cat.

KeepJoggingOn · 02/11/2023 12:07

Yes l would also feed her and find her a safe warm place.

Whycantistaymotivated · 02/11/2023 12:10

Thanks for your responses.

I would love to take her in but I already have 2 female cats and they are currently avoiding the garden as she's attacking them, obviously protecting her unborn litter.

I have contacted a few local shelters, just waiting to hear back from 1 who might be able to take her but I'd need to catch her and bring her in which I am not looking forward to.

Cats protection are my go to. Ours supplied a trap cage so we just put food in it and it closed when she went in

Autumn1990 · 02/11/2023 12:50

Cats protection do a scheme with vets where feral/farm cats are neutered for£10.
Really she needs catching before she has her kittens as they will need extra food in this weather

Jasmin1971 · 02/11/2023 12:53

Please just take her to a local shelter. Damn your neighbour.

MonumentalLentil · 02/11/2023 12:58

Ask your vet, some of ours take abandoned cats and find a rescue or new home, depending on circumstances.

Does she have somewhere to shelter?

LakeTiticaca · 02/11/2023 13:12

Local volunteer cat rescues are your best bet. Look on Facebook. They are usually very busy with unwanted cats but would probably find a foster for a pregnant cat. They will have her spayed afterwards. Don't bother with the national charities. They pick and choose what animals they will help, if they ever have time with all their meddling in politics.
Looking at you RSPCA

Whycantistaymotivated · 02/11/2023 13:15

She's moved into our cat house (my girls aren't happy about that)

Just heard back from the shelter, they can take her, they asked I catch her and bring her tomorrow 😊

Well done op.

Ihaterhymingrabbit · 02/11/2023 13:16

A pregnant female is usually a high priority with rescues. Have you called the shelters or just emailed? I would call 📞 and and keep calling, if she’s pregnant and homeless it’s an emergency as she may need vet care and the kittens could die if she has no shelter.

GrimGrinningGhosts · 02/11/2023 13:16

Ask on your local FB groups, there is usually someone with a cat catching cage in the area that can help you.

Ihaterhymingrabbit · 02/11/2023 13:17

Yessssss welldone OP, you’re a legend

Jasmin1971 · 02/11/2023 13:19

caringcarer · 02/11/2023 14:17

I hope she finds someone to love her and get her spayed. Poor kitty. What shitty ex neighbours you had.

Ibravedaflood · 02/11/2023 15:05

If you are on fb a charity may lend you a cage to trap her.. Much bigger than a dcat box. Prob a once only chance.. She isn't daft!
