Go in for training on annual leave

I'm on annual leave from work this week. Manager has said in the WhatsApp group that there's mandatory training that needs to be done, and the trainers will be at work two days this week if people can pop in.

I've replied saying I'm on annual leave this week. Some other people have said they will pop in (who aren't on annual leave, just days off).

I don't feel I should have to go in on my annual leave, I'm not abroad but I'm really busy and have loads planned.

Should I go in?

Is this the NHS?
This used to.happen all the time when I was a nurse managers thinking there time was more important than mine and booking ward meetings etc on my days off / annual leave and just expecting staff to.attend I always refused.

@LameBorzoi not long ago. Yes it's a shame but in some places it's how it is, esp large plcs.

@Aquestioningmind you’re demonstrating you’re less committed than they are (at least as a manager that’s how I would view it).

Christ. I’m glad I don’t work for you, you definitely shouldn’t be a manager with that attitude!

Work to live, not live to work. Everyone is entitled to their annual leave, and once approved it can’t just be revoked at will by management. This sort of behaviour loses employers their decent employees. It doesn’t show a lack of commitment, it shows a poor management structure.

No way would I go and I know my boss wouldn’t expect it. Not that it matters but what if you were away on holiday. Your answer should be a resounding no. Their lack of forward planning isn’t your problem.

You are overthinking it.
You are on annual leave, you received a general announcement just because you looked and when you mentioned being away, no-one told you anything.

Ignore it and enjoy your time off.

If it is a large office, you can't be the only one missing it.

Uh, no…you’re on leave. If they approved leave when there was actually training booked then that’s their problem, not yours. They should make alternative arrangements for you to complete the training. You only know about it because you looked. Forget it and enjoy your time off.
