To think if you can manage a piece of fish, you can eat 4 fishfingers

Had fishfingers over the weekend and it reminded me of the thread about how many ff is enough/a portion and made me wonder why people could eat a piece of boxed fish, say youngs for example, but would struggle to eat more than 3 fishfingers? Or could eat a steak but wouldn't have more than 2 sausages?

Is it just because its one piece of fish/steak, but a perceived greedy number of fishfingers or sausages?

If you are posting just to say you only eat a quarter of a piece of triangle fish and anything else is greedy, I ate all 10 fishfingers in the box on sunday.

@Itsnotchristmasyet if you get the Fish Finger Happy Meal from McDonald's you get 3 - and Happy Meals are for little kids.
Therefore the rules are you must eat a least 3 🤣

Happy Meals might have been designed for little children, but they are also quite handy if you fancy something from McD's but don't want to feel too full afterwards. You can choose not to have the toy.

(As it we rarely get to McD's because of where we live, but when I was last near one I had a cheeseburger HM for lunch one day, with Tropicana as the drink. Another day I was hungrier so had a nice chicken sandwich thing (forget the name) with chips and Irn Bru.)

You’re all greedy pigs. Personally I will only eat 2 crumbs from a single haddock-based fish finger. NEVER pollock - pollock is basically the turd of the ocean. And cod can get right back in the sea. Haddock crumbs are very filling.

2 crumbs and I’m quite literally done until Christmas when I will eat a single slice of Turkey and a Brussel sprout.

2 Fish fingers is only a couple of bites, just about right for a toddler.

I tend to eat FF with a poached egg (or two), peas, and bread or toast. DH/DS have theirs with chips and peas mostly, though DS does like a FF sarnie. For me 2 FF, 1 or 2 eggs, a good portion of peas and a slice toast/bread is more than enough for my meal. That's how I enjoy them, others enjoy them in different ways and in different quantities, but as long as the overall diet is healthy/suitable for any specific dietary needs then we don't all have to do things the same way!
Enjoy your FF however you eat them and however many you have (anyone ever manage more than 10 at a time - that's the highest I have seen so far).

6 fish fingers, 4 potato waffles and massive blob of tomato sauce.
Best meal ever.
I would have no problem eating an entire 10 pack though @YesIProbablyAmGreedySoWhat because fish fingers are the best.

This is what I had for lunch today! Except 2 waffles!

I just eat less of foods I don't enjoy that much. Fish fingers have too much coating and are kind of rubbish tbh. I wouldn't want more than three. It's not the same food as a nice piece of fish at the seaside.

ReturnOfTheRainMac · 31/10/2023 19:11

3 ff are 190 calories (and gone in seconds). I have 6. I feel that's appropriate. 3 is a kids portion... if you don't believe me then order a kids meal (over 5s) in any pub.

This is a joke I assume, but I actually only do eat haddock FF, the others are just not the same. It does mean that FF aren't really a cheap meal these days though, as the haddock ones are pretty pricey! It's a false economy to buy the other ones though, because I will just end up not eating them. 😁

Agreed!
We have lovely local battered haddock where I live - it's delicious and 100x nicer than FF. It's a rare treat these days but I enjoy it when I have it!

You don’t need bread crumbs. They’re carbs and unnecessary. No wonder we’ve all lost perspective on what is normal these days. Tut tut.

nopenotforme · 31/10/2023 19:21

I'd eat 4 ff, and feel satisfied. I love fish but have to admit I don't find it very filling - so the breadcrumbs must do the filling!

I did 16 pack once. But I had them with ketchup and that was it. I missed lunch in my defence, was tired and they cooked while I showered😂

I hope they hit the spot!

ButtonDownBev · 31/10/2023 19:26

My 14 month old could polish off 4 fish fingers if I let him 😂
I have 4 fish fingers if it's for a sandwich, usually 5/6 if its like the main thing for dinner (I probably could eat 10 but I don't lol)

I would have 3 or 4 thick sausages

I would rather eat more of the main protein with veg and less of the processed/ refined carbs

Wwwnothingdotcom · 31/10/2023 19:26

Just to add I wouldn't recommend that as a usual number or diet.

Rowgtfc72 · 31/10/2023 19:35

Fish fingers come in fives between two pieces of white bread. Four one way, one across the top. Add salad cream, grated cheese ( preferably mature) and serve.

OrganicAlchemy · 01/11/2023 08:49

Caerulea · 31/10/2023 16:28

Fish fingers are one of those things I can just eat endlessly. Sometimes with vinegar, sometimes with lemon. Just a neverending stream of fish fingers. Regardless of the quality. Floppy, crispy I don't care.

The only thing that stops me is the absurd amount I'd have to buy to feed my two resident teen sons & DH.

Maybe, though, in the interests of science I should find out what my limit is

Same - Probably inherited that from my Dad who I found once (high as usual) eating about 50, straight off the oven tray 😅

UndercoverCop · 01/11/2023 08:53

I'd probably eat 3 FF but happily eat a larger piece of fish breaded/battered or not, but I think it's because I don't like FF as much, the ratio of fish to coating is wrong, large haddock from the chip shop no problem, by the end of 3 FF I'm bored of them. There is a large caveat to this which is the fish finger sandwich where they cannot be surpassed. I'm WFH today and might actually have one for lunch....
