To think if you can manage a piece of fish, you can eat 4 fishfingers

Had fishfingers over the weekend and it reminded me of the thread about how many ff is enough/a portion and made me wonder why people could eat a piece of boxed fish, say youngs for example, but would struggle to eat more than 3 fishfingers? Or could eat a steak but wouldn't have more than 2 sausages?

Is it just because its one piece of fish/steak, but a perceived greedy number of fishfingers or sausages?

If you are posting just to say you only eat a quarter of a piece of triangle fish and anything else is greedy, I ate all 10 fishfingers in the box on sunday.

Personally I cant eat any fish fingers I think they are horrid

I love grilled of pan-fried fresh fish though. Just keep the breadcrumy stuff away from me.

If you are genuinely asking, OP, for me it is an issue of fat content. I cannot eat the same amount of a higher fat food (such as sausage or breaded fish) as I could a more moderate fat food. And by “cannot eat” I mean I will become nauseous and vomit if I overindulge on something fatty. It’s easy enough to avoid, so I simply don’t eat the same portions if I know it might make me ill.

But that’s a lot to explain and rather TMI, so if I was talking about it I suppose I’d just say that I could eat a steak but couldn’t eat 2 sausages and leave it at that.

I should add that this is related to my gallbladder, which my doctor likes to describe as “a bit lazy but otherwise healthy.”

I’m a whole-box-of-fishfingers kinda gal too! 👋🏽

Wwwnothingdotcom · 31/10/2023 15:42

As usual there is a problem of "what's the whole meal" .
I could eat whole pack of fish fingers because I may have bit of fries and veg like cucumber and tomato.
I am assuming those with 2 have heftier sides.

Also, people should pribs mention if they have medical reasons like 1 poster did straight away for smaller appetite. Otherwise it just looks like someone is trying to be bit "better than the rest"

CurlewKate · 31/10/2023 15:53

Doesn't it depend on the size of the bread or roll you're making the sandwich with? And ketchup? Seriously? Obviously mayonnaise and iceberg lettuce!

muddyford · 31/10/2023 15:55

The ordinary ones, 4 or 5. Sainsbury's TtD large haddock ones only two. But always chips, peas and cauliflower cheese from a bag, plus both tartare sauce and malt vinegar. Think we might have that tomorrow night.

Deadringer · 31/10/2023 15:57

2 Fish fingers is only a couple of bites, just about right for a toddler.

Wingingitbestican · 31/10/2023 15:58

I have 6 fish fingers, chips and spaghetti hoops - I would no way feel satisfied with 4.

AllWeWantToDo · 31/10/2023 16:05

On a sandwich then it's 4 , I'd usually have 3 if I'm having it with potato and beans

2 sausages on a sandwich or on a meal

My accompaniments of choice are chips and beans.

Same here
And all ten fish fingers.

amusedbush · 31/10/2023 16:10

Four fit perfectly on a slice of Warburtons "toastie" bread.

Two slices of Warburtons (butter on one), four fish fingers, and a bit of brown sauce - dinner of champions.

BigDahliaFan · 31/10/2023 16:17

4 fat fishfingers as tacos with red cabbage, peppers, salsa, cheese and lettuce.

Itsnotchristmasyet · 31/10/2023 16:26

I always have 2 fish fingers or 2 sausages, as I thought that was the amount everyone has as it was the ‘normal’ amount.

I struggle with what’s normal when it comes to food so I’m glad I read this thread.

I’m having fish fingers tonight and I’m going to push the boat out and have 3 😁

Caerulea · 31/10/2023 16:28

Fish fingers are one of those things I can just eat endlessly. Sometimes with vinegar, sometimes with lemon. Just a neverending stream of fish fingers. Regardless of the quality. Floppy, crispy I don't care.

The only thing that stops me is the absurd amount I'd have to buy to feed my two resident teen sons & DH.

Maybe, though, in the interests of science I should find out what my limit is

Needmorelego · 31/10/2023 16:28

@Itsnotchristmasyet if you get the Fish Finger Happy Meal from McDonald's you get 3 - and Happy Meals are for little kids.
Therefore the rules are you must eat a least 3 🤣

MangoPepsiLover · 31/10/2023 16:41

3 sausages or 3 fish fingers here.

DDs primary school give 1 sausage to KS1 and younger, 2 to KS2 or 2 fish fingers for KS1 and 3 for KS2.

So I think 3/4 of each is an adult portion.

TheShellBeach · 31/10/2023 16:42

I ate a whole box of twenty once, in the middle of the night.
I was pregnant and I just fancied them.

That is all the evidence I need! 🤣

I think you have a disordered view of food, op.

i literally do not know which way the disorder is? the OP is greedy or starving herself?

SalviaDivinorum · 31/10/2023 16:55

I'm a 2 fish finger person myself on the vanishingly rare times I buy them. Plenty of vegetables though.

Saschka · 31/10/2023 16:57

Maybe it’s what you are having them with? If you are eating a piece of fish with some boiled potatoes and steamed veg, that isn’t as filling as fish fingers with mash/chips and beans.

6 fish fingers and 3 sausages. With mash, I don't eat bread. Not a big fan of FF, but when I do eat them, I have 6. Bog standard-sized ones, from Tesco or Lidl, not some fancy big ones from Waitrose or similar. I'm slim, low end BMI if it matters. If someone served me 2 FF I'd be mystified and would think it's a joke. 4 is also not an adult portion for me, my DD ate 4-5 since toddler (she's isn't and never been overweight). 10 is pushing a boat (with sides) and I wouldn't eat it, but wouldn't judge anyone who did, not my business.

I also can't manage to stretch one chicken to feed 4 people for a whole week, don't eat crusty bread with lashings of REAL butter and massive salads.

BrimfulOfMash · 31/10/2023 18:07

I have 3. I like a fish finger sandwich or wrap, with lettuce and tartare sauce.
