To go trick or treating 7:30 onwards?

Don't often do trick or treat as dc are small but we're going to a birthday party until 7 so will be home around 7:30 tomorrow night, is that a good time to go trick or treat or is it all over by then?

We went at about that time last year, as DS1 had Beavers beforehand. The main rush was definitely over and plenty of houses had taken in their pumpkins/had signs up saying they were out of sweets. Still managed to find enough houses that still had stuff that my two were happy though. Just be prepared!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 30/10/2023 21:30

I always thought
7:30 was normal, lots of people won’t be home from work at 5.

Soubriquet · 30/10/2023 21:31

How bizarre. Most don’t start round here till it gets dark. I’ve had kids knock at 9pm before though that I would consider late

Didimum · 30/10/2023 21:32

I have two quite little ones so tend to go earlyish. We were home by about 7ish last year, but the trick or treating fun outside went on for far later than that!

Londonrach1 · 30/10/2023 21:33

Too late. All sweets be gone and children getting ready for bed

LittleBearPad · 30/10/2023 21:33

You’ll be down to the Parma Violets at most by then. I’d go earlier.

mondaytosunday · 30/10/2023 21:33

Last visitors around 8pm, the odd teenager maybe after that (with only a passing attempt at a costume). If you kids out still go for it but only at those with lit pumpkins! We blow ours out once the candy is all gone.

WhatYouEgg · 30/10/2023 21:37

Round here it doesn't really start until 6ish as people need a chance to get home from work. 8.30pm seems to be the time things start to wrap up. Biggest flurry is between 6-7pm. When people are done, they take pumpkin in and blow out lights. 9pm is the latest I open my door.

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/10/2023 21:47

It's for young kids here, Dts are very annoyed that I've said they can't go this year, they're in y8. It finished by half six / seven.

I tend to ‘stay open’ til 8!

Me too

It was dark at 5pm today!

Fionaville · 30/10/2023 21:50

Its still pretty busy with kids round here at 7.30. As long as people still have the pumpkin out/lights on. It's fair game to knock still.

What’s bizarre? It’s dark by 5pm.

TheGlitterFairy · 30/10/2023 21:55

Too late here too - the pumpkin will be in by the time DS goes up for a bath - 630 - so wouldn’t be answering the door after that anyway.

Montaguez · 30/10/2023 22:04

Round here the after-school club for working parents goes on until 6pm! Some of those kids wouldn't even be home until 6.30, then they'd have to change and go out. Shame for them.

Butlinsorbust · 30/10/2023 22:10

Mad round here between 5 and 7pm, then we run out! I we buy 10kg of wrapped candy online. Littlest come out as soon as it’s getting dark at 4.30pm…

Butlinsorbust · 30/10/2023 22:11

well, dark in our part of U.K. is 5pm!

WimbyAce · 30/10/2023 22:13

Would be too late round here but then it is carnage and out of sweets by about 6pm!

HowNice23 · 30/10/2023 22:15

All done by 630 for anyone under 14 here. You'll have very slim pickings!

Carsarelife · 30/10/2023 22:17

I leave my pumpkin lit until 9pm. On a week-end i would expect knockers till 10pm.

Think you could still go out at 7.30 and just look for lit pumpkins

DiscoBeat · 30/10/2023 22:18

Definitely late - we used to go just after dark.

Wheelz46 · 30/10/2023 22:26

I would say too late too, mine always go around 6pm and usually back around 7pm which seems to be the norm for most people where I live.

My partner or I always make sure one of us stays home to answer the door to trick or treaters while the other takes them. We might get a few knocks before mine go to bed but generally lights are out at 7.30pm to give my own kids some downtime before bed.

Anotherdayanotherdramaa · 30/10/2023 22:41

I would ask on a local Facebook page. We get trick or treaters up until about 8ish around here. If I am working in the office, we don't put the pumpkin out till at least 6.30, I'm surprised to see people saying on here that trick or treaters usually start at 5 - surely most people are in work still?

Snugglemonkey · 30/10/2023 22:43

I will also be turning out the lights and putting my children to bed at this time.

JadeSeahorse · 30/10/2023 22:57

DH and I always eat dinner at 7.00pm so don't answer the door from 7.00pm onwards on Halloween.

To be honest we don't get many Trick or Treaters these days - semi rural, quiet cul de sac where most owners are older with grown DC - so doesn't seem a problem here.
