To go trick or treating 7:30 onwards?

Don't often do trick or treat as dc are small but we're going to a birthday party until 7 so will be home around 7:30 tomorrow night, is that a good time to go trick or treat or is it all over by then?

I bring the pumpkin in once DC go to bed at around that time. I would think most do the same

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/10/2023 20:14

I'm afraid I'd think it was too late.

Icepop79 · 30/10/2023 20:14

Round where we are it’s usually over by then. It’s total chaos between about 5-7pm but by 7:30 there’s slim pickings left and most houses have taken their pumpkins down.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 30/10/2023 20:14

There'd be nothing left in my house by then. Kids round here start before it gets dark!
Tbh, I'd probably discourage it after being to a birthday party...

Ha! I must live in the same street as you 😀

Yep anything after 7.30 is too late imo

cheddercherry · 30/10/2023 20:16

Most where we are take them in by then as little kids will have already been out and be going to bed and people tend not to want older ones knocking on.

Coffeerum · 30/10/2023 20:16

That would be late where we are. To be honest I wouldn’t be answering the door at 7:30pm, my kids would be in bed.

PenguinRainbows · 30/10/2023 20:17

Well we have trick or treaters until 9pm usually.

Our kids are in bed by 7 (we go at 4/5) and we leave out our decorations (we have lots, love Halloween!) so people know they can still knock.

It’s one night so I don’t mind if the knocking wakes them 🤷‍♀️

EnjoyingTheSilence · 30/10/2023 20:17

I tend to ‘stay open’ til 8!

CJCreggsGoldfish · 30/10/2023 20:18

Sorry, but it’s too late. Also, a lot of houses by me run out around 6pm - it’s chaos!

Tally00 · 30/10/2023 20:19

Thank you, mostly confirmed what I thought.

bossybloss · 30/10/2023 20:19

Can you go before the party? I think 7:30 is probably too late.

Curiosity101 · 30/10/2023 20:21

I agree with a PP that 5-7pm is prime time here. Sometimes we get them 4-5pm and a few 7-8pm but similar to PPs we blow out the pumpkins and turn out the lights some time shortly after 7 when we're sorting the kids ready for bed.

I definitely would skip trick or treating entirely if starting at 7.30pm

ColourMeBlue · 30/10/2023 20:22

I'm happy to answer the door til 9.00 pm.If a few knock afterwards,I'd probably answer if I had sweets left.I only tend to not answer when I'm out of sweets-nothing worse than saying sorry,no sweets left

IAmAnIdiot123 · 30/10/2023 20:26

We leave a box of sweets outside (well 3 boxes) and leave them out till around 9. We usually get back about 7 and they are empty but the boxes seem to signify no knocking. It's a great system as we are still giving out sweets whilst also being able to take the kids and I don't have the animals distressed by the doorbell going every 2 mins.

Pinkkisugarmouse · 30/10/2023 20:28

We tend to get a rush from 4.30-7 and then the odd couple of older ones until 8.
At 8 the decorations will come down and that will be us done so our very seasonal black cats don’t accidentally get out. I don’t like them being out at night so after their supper the cat flap is locked.

Pinkkisugarmouse · 30/10/2023 20:32

It’s not unreasonable it’s just likely that many houses will be out of sweets by 7.30.

BlackGoldSun · 30/10/2023 20:34

Toddler goes to bed around 8:30 (always envious of the early to bed kids) so we will answer until then and leave sweets out after if any left. DSis is staying with us and is changing the message on my ring doorbell to something spooky.

cigarettesNalcohol · 30/10/2023 20:34

By 6.30pm last year most houses had run out of sweets - much too late

TheFireflies · 30/10/2023 20:35

I get a few at 7.30-8 but usually teenagers. I live on a busy road though and always have lots of decorations up. I switch it all off at 8 and settle down to watch a horror movie.

Onabench · 30/10/2023 20:35

It is fine as long as you go to houses with lit up pumpkins etc there might just be fewer at that time

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 30/10/2023 20:49

A bit late for us, we usually stop around 7.30-8pm. We do leave the remaining sweets outside for late trick or treaters though.

lljkk · 30/10/2023 20:52

Sweets will be all gone by 7-7:30pm ime.

DeireadhFomhair · 30/10/2023 20:55

It'll all be over here by then. Earlies start about 5pm, only stragglers left by 7.30
