mobile phone contract advice please help

Hi, I am trying to sort out a new deal for my dad, have just had to cancel one in the cooling off period he sorted himself as he was talked into a totally over the top expensive deal he didn't need.

I am now looking at buying him a phone outright and taking a sim only deal. He currently is with Vodafone on his contract which he is contracted with directly with Vodafone (comes out of contract this month). If I take out a new sim only contract, on Vodafone but with carphone warehouse can he Port his number or does that only work if he swtiches network.

Trying to find answer to this online and struggling.

Normally porting is across network.

You could always buy a cheap PAYG sim on a different network, move the number to that and then move it to the Carphone sim

Ah yes I remember this now from a few years back thank you! I knew there was something weird you had to do. It is impossible to speak to a human about this stuff these days.

@JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome car phone warehouse does not exist separately anymore.
If you go into Currys they were very helpful and we got a deal directly with Vodafone

Thank you, yes saw that they still do exist online but not in terms of stores so know need to visit currys.

Apparently the online version is not Currys so be careful

Slightly derailing my own thread but Vodafone sold my 76 year old dad an iphone 15 (he currently has an iphone SE second generation) and then a 25g data contract for £27 a month which is insanely expensive the whole thing was going to cost him £1400 over the life of the contract. He just had no idea and went along with what they said, thankfully he mentioned it to me and I was able to get it cancelled within the cooling off period.

Gosh really, right I am steering clear of that then thank you very much for the heads up. It is a blooming minefield these days.

I had "carphone warehouse" ring me near end of contract too.
