Hi all, found a necklace in my local village today carpark. Police station has closed down so can't take it there, no buildings nearby, quite a remote car park so I've bought it home to look after and posted on local FB groups to alert people in case the unfortunate person has found it. How long would you say is fair game, until giving up and keeping it for myself? It's a gorgeous necklace and I'm hoping I can reunite it but if this isn't the case, how long would you say?

Sorry for my typing, English is not my first language.

I would give it to the next police station in the town over.

When I lost an important piece of jewellery, I rang police stations over and over, hoping it would be handed in.

Eventually, it was, and I just needed to show proof that I owned it.

It's not yours, so I wouldn't keep it. Especially if the person asks for CCTV footage, which is what I did. I would have uploaded the man's name to Facebook to ask if anyone knew him for help in tracking it down if he hadn't handed it in.

No matter how 'gorgeous' it is and how much you very obviously want to keep it, you do the decent thing and hand it into the police.

However unlikely, it could possibly also be evidence of a crime.
