By definition, not knowing any songs by an artist would indeed make someone “not a fan” of said artist.

Her songs are very relatable, I think which helps.

She knows what her fans want.

Typically true of a lot of artists though. The music released will always be what the record company will view as the most marketable to a large audience which in a lot of cases tends to be more generic formulaic stuff. Really it’s hard therefore for people to judge if someone is a once in a generation talent as to compare you would need to delve into the full back catalogue of all artists rather than just their released singles.

Have you seen her in the flesh? She is very pretty, tall, slim and toned. She really isn't average looking, although she isn't a super model.
All of which is totally irrelevant to her musical skills.

I also happen to really like much of Kayne's music but he is currently behaving like a giant bellend and also hasn't released any recent music. The last tours he did had too little music and too many long disjointed rants. So he isn't providing much current competition to Taylor.

She usually has collaborators, like almost every musical artist - if you think that discredits her as a songwriter then you presumably don’t rate any songwriters.

I like some of her songs as in an 'Oh there's that catchy Taylor Swift song' but that's it. She's a woman in her mid thirties but who comes across as being about 15. It just all feels like teenage angst to me. She's talented but there's just something very juvenile about her.

Also, I really, really resent the implication uptrend that anyone who doesn't like her, or her music, obviously finds Taylor Swift 'too young and beautiful'. It's insulting to try to shut opposing views down with the old 'sounds like you're jealous' trope! I don't find Taylor Swift too young or too beautiful and I don't find her or her music to be terribly profound.

The OP did say 'generational', so that's the high bar we are talking about. Its why I mentioned Freddie Mercury.

Does she have stage presence in comparison to say..Arianna Grande? Probably.

But generational?

Shes a pleasant white girl who co-writes cheesy pop songs for teen girls. That's an enormous market and she has cornered it so fair play to her.

I do think that her big released hits aren’t necessarily her best songs though. Catchy? Yes. But lyrically not necessarily her best.
I do think if some of those on here that don’t really rate her listened to some album tracks they may actually change their view.
She’s incredibly talented, very business savvy, clearly hugely driven, and FUNNY! I don’t think she’s given anywhere near enough credit for her humour 😊
