Cold - rest or carry on?

Ive had a cold the last few days, today I’ve taken the day to pretty much rest to try and shake it off, I think it’s making me feel more tired?!
If you have a heavy cold do you tend to carry on with your plans and just think it will go soon or do you find stopping and resting if you can helps a bit?

I've never really had the chance to just rest when I've had a cold (since children anyway!) and to be honest I've usually felt better once up and about in the fresh air etc.

I just crack on. I’d love to rest, but no option really. As you say, it often makes you feel worse anyway.

Nothankyou22 · 27/10/2023 15:05

I still do everything I normally would other than the gym

Delatron · 27/10/2023 15:05

I’m wondering the same at the moment. It really depends on the severity of the cold for me and whether it’s gone to my chest. I’ve rested a bit but going out for a dog walk soon - could go either way. Hoping the fresh air will perk me up. I won’t run or exercise so that’s the compromise for me.

If I feel feverish/ weak then I defo rest.

i cant stand being indoors when i have a cold so i get out as much as possible, spend more time at the stables etc.

I dont really do resting though

ShowOfHands · 27/10/2023 15:08

I get on with it unless I absolutely cannot which is extremely rare. I always feel better for going out for a walk or run or cycle.

MidnightOnceMore · 27/10/2023 15:11

I rest if I can.

Almondmum · 27/10/2023 15:17

I rest. I used to power through but found it lingered for ages. If I rest for a couple of days that usually sees it off.

I also embarrassed myself by nearly passing out at the gym once when I went with the tail end of a cold. Oh and wet myself when trying to run with a cough.

Wakeywake · 27/10/2023 15:19

I used to carry on as usual when I was younger, now it's taking me much longer to recover if I don't rest.

SnapBang · 27/10/2023 15:20

It depends on the severity surely? I’ve been resting the last three days from a pretty horrendous cold and have t really been able to move. Usually though, I’ll catch a cold and carry on while I blow my nose and take lemsip for a few days, no biggie. I think there are colds and colds. If you need to rest, just rest. I genuinely feel better for it now.

SnapBang · 27/10/2023 15:21

Meant to add - if I hadn’t rested these three days, I just know I’d have been ill all next week. Not worth it!
