Woken by neighbour's motorbike 3.30am each morning

I'm not sure if there is a solution to this but it is killing me. In the past month or so neighbour has been leaving home at 3.30am every morning- presumably for work. They leave on a motorbike that is waking me. I have to get up at 5am and just cannot get back to sleep so it means I'm starting my day at 3.30am every single morning. I am exhausted and it's affecting me mentally and emotionally. I tried wearing earplugs but need to be able to hear my children in case they need me in the night so that's not an option. Nor is moving to a different bedroom.

I will try speak to my neighbour but not sure what they'll say as understandly they need to leave at that time. It's just the motorbike is so loud and it's having a significantly detrimental impact on me. I just want to cry.

Anyone have any advice?

I hate motorbikes for this reason, mopeds aren't much better

Everything is loud at 3:30am
I bet if OP's neighbour had an electric car, they would be moaning about the doors slamming.

Ear plugs won't stop you from hearing your children. I wear ear plugs every night - got into it when living with an ex who kept hens. Could be noisy little beasts at times.

Ear plugs 'muffle' the noise and make it less harsh, but don't block it out completely. I never miss my alarm, or my fella calling me from the other room for example. They allow me to ignore non essential / irritating noise but I still hear the stuff I need to. I'd try that personally. The wax ones are good!

Just want to say thank you to all of you who have responded with suggestions.

I don't think there is a straightforward solution to be honest. I've tried foam earplugs but still heard the bike. Am reluctant to try wax ones because my children are still very young and also I wouldn't want to inadvertently miss my alarm if I did sleep through the bike noise. I will try to work on falling back to sleep but I struggle with sleep in general and so this also is something that doesn't come easy.

I will try to speak to my neighbours but don't want to cause issues with them when all they're doing is travelling to work.

It's a really difficult situation.

YOu can get alarm watches that vibrate on your wrist and train the kids to come to you if they are up in the night

We had a very noisy motorbike going past our house at about midnight most nights. Facebook went mad with people complaining about it, how unfair and inconsiderate it was. How someone needed to have a word....
The lad riding it worked at the local pub- poor lad was just trying to earn some money and the bike was his only transport. He didn't realise how loud it was when he bought it and didn't have the money to change the exhaust on it.
It got to the point where there were people literally waiting up for him so they could try and catch him and 'have a word'. A couple of people even went into the pub to speak to him whilst he was working and complained to the manager-poor lad nearly lost his job!

I used to have this, although it was 4.30am. It made me smile as he was like clockwork.

Speak to him about starting it a bit further away, loads of people have made good suggestions about coping with the noise

Don't try so hard to get back to sleep, pop some headphones on and listen to a meditation, you'll br straight off to sleep again
