Staying at a seaside resort in the UK. Large Hotel has a massive open atrium that is overlooked by hotel rooms and anyone walking along the promenade. The hotel restaurant is located smack bang in the middle of the atrium and is open to the reception area. I come down to breakfast this morning and a significant number of guests are sat in their pyjamas having their breakfast! Different families, all scattered around the restaurant or queuing at the breakfast buffet in their nightwear and fluffy slippers. This is the first time that I have come across this. Is it a relatively recent phenomenon?

A couple of years ago I stayed in a hotel popular with cyclists. Lots of them came down to breakfast encased in tight lycra. I'll take PJs over shrink-wrapped meat and veg first thing in the morning any day.

"shrink-wrapped meat and veg"
😭😭😭😭😭😭

bronkie · 23/10/2023 22:54

If you follow Style and Beauty then you would know there are "breakfast dresses" 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/10/2023 22:56

My neighbour wears her pj's and slippers walking her dog each morning. PJ's I can understand, but for god's sake, is she walking around her house in those same slippers????
🤮

At Ragdale Hall people wear their bathrobes to dinner!!! I was aghast. I spend a lot of time in spas and although that one is quite lovely, it put me off a bit! Like @Toomanycaketins i am a bit judgey about the people who go to lunch in their damp swimwear and bath robes (if nothing else it makes the seat wet for the next person!) but honestly, DINNER. I draw the line there.

I wouldn’t wear my pjs but I always take a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a comfy T-shirt for breakfast when I’m in a hotel as I usually shower after breakfast when I’m away. Can confirm I still smell pretty clean and healthy, so no need to be put off your breakfast. When I was a student I didn’t care though and would go to Tesco in my jammies all day long! Oh to be young and drunk again.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/10/2023 22:57

No this is not ok. Definitely been worse since lockdown. It's not acceptable in my view.

QS90 · 23/10/2023 22:57

There's a guy at my work who gets foaming mouth rage about the concept of people dressing in pyjamas even when wfh 😂He doesn't like the idea of talking to someone on the phone, if they're not properly dressed the other end. I should add he's only in his 30s.

Icanttellyouanything · 23/10/2023 22:57

During the pandemic all our university applicant interviews were over zoom. A surprising number wore pyjamas but the 'worst' was the very fluffy, very pink dressing gown covered in hearts. NO! I still have flashbacks about the dressing gown.
Wearing your jimjams to an interview is just not a good look.

QS90 · 23/10/2023 22:58

Reading this thread has gotten me excited for buying some new winter pjs!

Is he some MN creep who claims to smell "fanny wafts" over Zoom?

Documentary type film 2010 so nothing new

OhDoSitDownAndShutUp · 23/10/2023 23:03

It might be acceptable in some places like Skegness, Benidorm and the likes - but anyone who wears their pyjamas in public anywhere is common as muck, and thick as well.

Is this yet another ‘are you middle class enough’ MN thread? Because we couldn’t ALL be lucky enough to inherit the sterling silver salad spinner from Great Aunt Edna.

I think you may have taken ‘shaking the lettuce’ too literally.

What is "last night's load"?

I prefer to shower in the evening

Still reeling from "fanny wafts", "bumjuice bar" and now "last night's load" 🤣🤣🤣

Antst · 23/10/2023 21:26

Maybe so, but the people in pyjamas definitely aren't. If you put clothes on, there's a higher chance you'll have washed and put underwear on.

I always get out of bed and chuck on some joggers and a hoodie when going to breakfast in a hotel. I get washed and dressed afterwards. Thought most people did that! You do know some people don't ever shower in the mornings! Some people just shower at night.

I thought lettuce was code for fanny flaps Confused

Icopewhenihope · 23/10/2023 23:10

No, lazy, slovenly and nasty.

Seriously, what are you talking about?
There's a lot of misogynistic shite on this thread.

Ykn · 23/10/2023 23:11

This also happened earlier this year on holiday in Fuerteventura in an expensive adults only hotel. Several couples going to A La Carte and buffet breakfast in pyjamas and slippers...slobby, and disrespectful to other guests and staff.

DollyPartonsLeftTit · 23/10/2023 23:11

I'm dead.. Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣

Eww this is grim.
I am due to stay in a Premier Inn in the North this weekend, and have booked a breakfast in the brewers fayre, next door.
Am bracing myself for Fanny wafts and cheesy helmets.

I saw a good few in Surrey this weekend, so it’s definitely not just the North!

XenoBitch · 23/10/2023 22:59

Not that I'm award of. Although he is also OBSESSED about the number of takeaways people on benefits can afford...

whatkatydid2013 · 23/10/2023 23:14

The degree to which some people care about this is surprising. The degree to which assumptions are made about people based on it is kind of depressing and I can’t help thinking a little bit ableist. I’m always reading mumsnet can be that way inclined and it kind of stands out with some of the comments even after a PP mentioned looking up spoon theory.
