Leaving uncovered raw chicken in fridge?

Husband tends to leave food uncovered in the fridge, which I hate and have brought up with him on many occasion but he doesn't see the problem so keeps doing it. IMHO, he has a lax attitude to food hygiene etc whereas he thinks I'm just a nagging health and safety zealot.

I'm veggie (and quite a lot shorter than him). Just went to check what was in the random open dish that has been sitting unclaimed on the top shelf of our fridge for the best part of the past week and it's an uncovered raw chicken breast which looks rank. I'm clearly chucking that away. Also planning to chuck all the uncovered food from the fridge as worried about contamination. This is sadly a lot of things that my husband has cooked in the past few days. He's at work and pretty cross about this and begged me to not do this so have held fire. So am I overreacting?

Uncovered chicken will dry out and it sounds like it might be too old to eat as well. I’m not sure it would infect anything else though unless it’s touching or has dripped.

Your husband is disgusting. What a minger.

Yuk, I'd let him eat it though, that way if he gets ill he will learn his lesson and hopefully stop doing it Grin

no. I feel sick just reading this

raw chicken/meat/fish packages in my house get stored separately and once opened either used or packed into sealable containers which are then thrown away (I do this rarely and aim to cook it all at once).
