Go round to their house or trust Just Park to sort this out?

I live on a house estate near and airport. We have parking problems everywhere.

For a few weeks we have been getting people parking in our private off road parking spaces for days/weeks on end. A neighbour confronted one of them and they said they had paid for the space via Just Park. Got in their taxi to the airport and left. My immediate neighbours denied all involvement so I reported the most recent one to Just Park and they told me it’s a house way up the street nowhere near me. They say they are going to ask the seller to prove they own the space. But I really don’t think they give a shit, it’s all just profit for them. Anyone could say they own anything and get a listing on their site from what I can see.

Now once as a one off I would give them the benefit of the doubt and maybe having a crap listing that doesn’t explain the parking but this is the third time and they haven’t noticed the buyer doesn’t park in their sold space? So I think they are selling space that doesn’t belong to them. They are making £30+ I am making nothing and having no parking spaces for days on end.

I considered posting on the local Facebook group but this seems petty? I’m not sure whether to go round and confront them, or leave a note or just leave it up to Just Park? Just park say they are investigating the issue and will ask of proof of ownership from the seller.

I don’t know where I stand with this, I am considering one of those fixed locking bollards however as it’s a shared hard standing space (with allocated parking spaces) I doubt I have permission to install these, and who would I even ask? I don’t think the council own the parking and the developers handed it back a long time ago.

AIBU to be FUMING and has anyone come across this before?

Surely fixing the gate is a quicker, easier and cheaper option than a bollard.

It is also more likely to be used than a bollard. Much less fiddly. I say that as someone who has to padlock a gate in the dark daily

I would have to rely on everyone else to use it consistently whereas I know I would use my bollard and it would only be me doing it. Doing the gate in the rain and snow wears thin fast!

It’s not the parker’s fault! Imagine the stress of getting to the airport for a holiday and finding there is no parking spot. The problem is JustPark’s to solve.

But JustPark won't solve it until customers complain.
And quite frankly people who use things like JustPark without checking legitimacy etc are just asking for it. It's very obvious that things like this could happen. It's a risk you take when booking!

Just like how back in the days of proper AirBnB if you wanted everything above board you avoided it and forked out for a hotel.

Definitely do the bollard OP!

If the parkers can't find the spot they'll complain and CF will have to remove the listing.

jannier · 23/10/2023 22:48

Post it on FB and then find out how many other spaces the same neighbour has been selling

Klona · 23/10/2023 22:50

@TravelInHope it is their fault though, they either aren’t following instructions or they are told and carry on. I have no issue with a JP customer not being able to park in a space that was never rented to them that someone else owns and them having to park somewhere else or lose the money. Not my problem they too poor to pay for proper airport parking 😜

Nope, but it is irate customers who will have a galvanizing effect on Just Park.

They leave shitty reviews, they take it to SM and can ruin companies. They have sway, annoyed residents do not.

It was their fault this time. They were told not to park there and did it anyway.

Get the gate fixed and a remote open close mechanism fitted. Button control for each of the residents. No getting out in snow and rain and, if set to auto close after a few seconds, no worries about others remembering to use it.

Nice attitude, could be a myriad of reasons why they are using just park and not airport parking, not just price. Maybe they dont like busy carparks? Or they are just savvy.

They have paid for parking, its not their fault that some arsehole has decided to rent out your space

Klona · 24/10/2023 10:56

@AsWrittenBy

I’m obviously just being facetious, a bargain is a bargain after all. Still costs £20 at least for a cab to the airport. The driver was told it wasn’t the right space to park and left anyway. So they had full awareness it was incorrect and still chose to do it. Excuse me for fucking hating airport Parker’s inconsiderate arsehole behaviour just because they have a plane to catch. I also have a life and this is property that belongs to me so I don’t give a fuck if you have to spend time contacting the just park seller to find the right space - turn up in good time? Pay for real airport parking?

AsWrittenBy · 24/10/2023 11:00

@Klona but they thought they had paid the right parking

Ribena20 · 24/10/2023 11:03

But they didn't ...because they were told it was the wrong space? And left their car there anyway?

But they were corrected, and told they had the wrong space.
No need to be rude to the space owner & refuse to find their correct space.
Hope you get a resolution OP!

RudsyFarmer · 24/10/2023 11:24

I would write a Facebook post asking the person/people who are renting out parking spaces via JustPqrk to message you. You could then add that you think there has been a mix up and would appreciate anyone locally who is renting out their spaces to put a cone in the space with a JustPqrk notice attached so it’s obvious which spaces to use.

Klona · 24/10/2023 11:29

@AsWrittenBy no they didn’t
they were told this is not the right space, don’t park here. This is not the space you think you paid for, please move.
They just shrugged and left, leaving the car behind

Wtf? Why shouldn’t OP refuse to help them find the right space?

As long as they get off her space, why should she care? Is it just women that you expect to solve random men’s problems?

Maddy70 · 24/10/2023 11:33

So they may well own the space and are renting it out. Just speak to them

You've misunderstood. @JesusHRooseveltChristAgain means that the car owner was rude to the OP and that the car owner refused to find the correct space

What ON EARTH are you talking about????
When did I mention expecting women to solve men's problems???
I said there was no need for the driver to be rude to OP and to refuse to find the their own space, where did I say 1) the driver was male? Or 2) the op should find the space for them?

@Oyen the parking spaces come with the deeds of the house. They are on my deeds. However as it is shared with other neighbours and a management company come round to do the lighting and gardening I need to find out if it’s freehold or leasehold. I don’t want to fix anything to the ground if I need permission first

there is a gate but it’s broken and it’s not locked so anyone could just open the gate and drive in

Edited

I presume you're paying an annual service charge to the Management Company to maintain the common areas? Make it their problem. They're being paid to manage.

On no account should you regularly sprinkle the parked cars in chips/birdseed and allow the gulls/pigeons to make a mess. That would be irresponsible.

SliceOfBread · 24/10/2023 12:11

The parkers don't know the gate doesn't work though do they?

Stick a sign on it with some spiel about "Private Parking Residents only - Not JustPark. Cars left risk being locked in unless you have the key".

Might make people think twice about parking there if they pull up and think their car might get locked in? Nobody wants to come back from holiday and see their car has been locked in.

ittakes2 · 24/10/2023 12:31

I would jump on just park - try and buy the space for the cheapest amount and then post a review saying this space is being used illegally that you own the space and anyone thinking of buying it might want to think twice as you plan on having their car towed and it might ruin their holiday.

Parking on private land isn't illegal. This is a civil matter.

True. Which is why I suggested the community policing team. They generally have a remit to prevent small scale, non crimes tipping over into larger community conflicts. Mine would absolutely contact Just Park and ask them nicely to double check all listings in the area as it was causing local conflicts.
