Get money back or receive undamaged part?

I ordered two, flat pack bedside tables, £100 each. One of them arrived with it's back all damaged. It's been assembled now and there is no back to it, but because it is sat against a wall it doesn't really matter. I emailed the company asking for a the replacement part and to send me the back panel. They wrote back saying they're happy to replace it OR they can refund me £25.

I prefer to have the damaged part replaced. DH wants the money. What would you do? If it helps to inform your decision we wouldn't store any clothes or anything in there is. So no need to worry about say a moth getting in there, more just bedside bits and pieces like mobile phone charger, tissues, hairbands, eye masks, pen, notepad etc

YANBU - get the replacement
YABU - take the money

Get the replacement. It doesn't matter now, but it will matter if you decide to change your furniture later and want to sell them.

@Jelllytot - maybe you can persuade your husband by pointing out that the back stabilises the whole construction. Without it there is scope for the 90 degree joints to move, they will then become loose and the item will fall apart. Just saying!

Is your husband taking the one without the back? You mentioned hairbands...

WaltzingWaters · 22/10/2023 08:07

If you can be bothered to assemble the back on, get the replacement.

Thank you!! I love a bit of technical evidence based persuasion, it's DH's Achilles heel 🤓

Yes. I said if we get the money back he's taking the broken one. Also my hairbands grow legs, they are everywhere.

Get him to swap with you now - he might change his mind about not wanting the replacement!

LIZS · 22/10/2023 09:11

If it makes no integral difference take the refund.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 22/10/2023 09:15

If he’s taking the broken one, take the refund but he doesn’t get to complain when it fills up and stuff ends up falling down the back.
