Help, don’t know what to do

Sorry, I understand I might not be thinking straight about this but I’ve had a crap few days and my mind is a bit of a mess right now.

I’m on my period (at the end of it) and totally forgot about my tampon. It was probably in for around 4 days. I’ve never done this before but I just completely forgot about it. Ever since, I’ve had some problems with a burning feeling- it feels internal rather than external (like it is with BV or thrush) I’m really not explaining it well but it’s like a really strong burning almost sort of itching feeling. I haven’t had any UTI symptoms so it’s not that either. I’m totally fine otherwise- no temperature or no other problems. I’m just worried this is a result of me forgetting about the tampon.

I visited the pharmacy but they said they couldn’t do much and recommended the GP, but that doesn’t open until Monday and it’s incredibly uncomfortable. Would it be a bit dramatic to go to the out of hours GP for this especially as that’s only for things that can’t really wait until the GP reopens? Im otherwise well and have no symptoms other than this ambiguous ‘burning feeling’ and something just not feeling right, which isn’t exactly a clear cut symptom of anything especially as im otherwise well but it’s just so incredibly uncomfortable.

im just worried it’s something I’ve accidentally done with forgetting about the tampon.

Does anyone have any advice? I’ve never had any problems like this before so im totally clueless but something just doesn’t feel right

Out of hours is the right thing to do. Pelvic infections can get nasty quickly

Conniethecatapillar · 21/10/2023 23:03

I would go! But I remember reading a lot about toxic shock syndrome a lot when I was younger and it really scared me. I think if you don't feel right then the GP would recommend the hospital anyway wouldn't they? I hope you are feeling better soon.

404usernotfound · 21/10/2023 23:04

I would go to out of hours, yes. Why take the risk?

Turquoiseseas · 21/10/2023 23:04

Personally i dont think its unreasonable to call 111 and go to the out of hours at all - 111 will advise as to whether you need to go to the out of hours anyway - you dont want to be dealing with an infection just in case it is that so i'd probably give them a call and see what they say, might put your mind at rest OP

Get checked out. It probably isn't toxic shock syndrome but it's possible

Get yourself to a walk in centre/urgent care/out of hours GP tomorrow 👍

DaftQuestionForToday · 21/10/2023 23:09

Yep OOH first thing tomorrow. Infections can turn nasty quickly!! and if you wake in the night with a temperature or just feeling bloody awful, go to OOH (if you have someone to drive you!) or 111 or even 999 if you are alone and feel dreadful

hope you feel better by the morning though!!

Call 111 or straight to ooh!
