Please talk me down!!

I've had a drink and whilst getting in to bed I have clearly pressed a button and called my big boss. Like big big boss!

My phone thought this was hilarious and I could not get the keypad up to end the call. The ringing felt like it had gone on for absolutely ages, no one answered or hung up the call. Eventually managed to end the call by turning my phone off, but it took forever.

By the time I turned my phone back on I had a message asking if I was ok as she had a missed call.

I replied apologising massively and that it was a huge mistake, but now I can't sleep. My stomach is in absolute knots.

I feel so embarrassed. Is it the drink making me feel this way!!! I am literally petrified that shes gonna pull me up on it on Monday 🙄😭

Ah. Beer worry. Lesson 1: do nothing further until sober. Actions now will only make things worse.

Because in sober-land, nothing is actually wrong in the first place.

Nowherenew · 20/10/2023 23:19

Honestly OP this is nothing to worry about.

I’ve had it a couple of times and I never gave it a second thought.

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 20/10/2023 23:22

Thank you all. I think it's the embarrassment more than anything. She's a new big boss and I'm trying to make a decent impression as there is the possibility of promotion in the next couple of months. Don't want her thinking I'm a piss head who calls her randomly. Thing is she clearly saw me ringing for nearly a minute as when I eventually got the phone off and turned it back on she had text me 🙄

If he thought his lame joke was funny she was probably right!

Post fail - meant for post about the woman whose boss called while standing behind her.

MsRosley · 20/10/2023 23:24

OP, you sound about sixteen.

Don't worry about that, people often don't notice at all that they've pocket dialled.

Rachpen · 20/10/2023 23:27

It’s nothing! I called my corporate insurance broker multiple times in the middle of the night when I was extremely drunk. i have NO IDEA what happened if I left any messages or spoke with her. Poor woman. Always extremely professional and pleasant.

supermamio · 20/10/2023 23:30

Make sure to turn your phone off, i have drunkenly text people while half asleep before, making absolutely no sense. Not even words just jibberish. Cant even remember doing it and not blindingly drunk either 😬

DaftQuestionForToday · 20/10/2023 23:40

Stop worrying. Go to sleep!! It'll all seem like nothing in the morning, because it's a non event!!

she's not going to pass you by for promotion because you once accidentally phoned her.

CesareBorgia · 20/10/2023 23:43

Never been anywhere near a 'big boss' but I once found a missed call from 3am the previous night from someone I used to line-manage. I hadn't spoken to them for about a year. I just ignored it assuming it was a mistake. The next time I bumped into them, it wasn't mentioned.

OMFG!

Stravaig · 20/10/2023 23:47

Alcohol impairs your judgement, so your perception and analysis of this incident is horribly skewed, OP. How's that for serious and sober 🤣.
It was a wee pocket dial, drink a big glass of water and get some sleep x

StolenCookie · 20/10/2023 23:49

I say this with kindness: you’re drunk and hysterical! Accidentally calling someone is entirely plausible and not at all embarrassing. The other day my baby somehow got my phone, opened WhatsApp and called a colleague! No harm done. You need to go to sleep and see sense in the morning.

BrutusMcDogface · 20/10/2023 23:51

Aquamarine1029 · 20/10/2023 23:02

Good lord, calm the fuck down. Nothing happened. It was an accidental call. Your boss has already forgotten about it.

😆😆😆
”good lord, calm the fuck down” has really tickled me!

HeidiInTheBigCity · 20/10/2023 23:57

Perfectly okay! Speaking in my function as "person whom some people would regard as their personal OMFG, BIGBOSS!".

Employees have, literally, called me at 11pm, clearly not all sober, and have demanded that I take a stance on [insert any random subject - many of them quite legitimate, too! that boil down "literally way above my own paygrade"].

All of them are still employed here! None of them have even been disciplined.

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 21/10/2023 00:03

OP you sound like one of those people who goes all sweaty and shaky in front of the 'big boss', whilst doffing your cap and holding them in higher esteem than God 🙄

Stop it. They're just people like you but with a different job.

Aylestone · 21/10/2023 00:11

Op I’d love to write a post trying to cheer you up like everyone else has done, but the fact you’re having a panic attack over a pocket dial is worrying. You really need to stay away from alcohol as it’s destroying your mental health. I had a colleague do this to me 2 days ago but far worse I guess (in your eyes). Im Scottish and she’s gone on holiday and bumped into some Scottish fella, and decided to ring me at 2am to ask me if I knew Rory from Pittenweem 🤦🏼‍♀️ she seemed to come to her senses about 20 seconds into the call and realise I’m not likely to have ever bumped into one of the potentially 6 million or so Scotsmen she could have met on holiday. And I’m really not arsed about it tbh

InYourOwnHead · 21/10/2023 00:19

Not a big deal at all OP.

RicherThanYews · 21/10/2023 00:26

I pocket dial my colleagues every day because I'm carrying shit and using two crutches, they're used to it, it's really no big deal. You have the Beer Fear.

weirdoboelady · 21/10/2023 00:53

Your phone went bananas. Everyone's does this sometime.

Turning the tables, I was opposite my boss in a meeting once. I could see his phone in his shirt breast pocket. He rang me. I never let him forget that he has the most versatile nipples in the world, that were able to ring me while both his his phone and his hands were in full view, and nowhere near each other.

Seeleyboo · 21/10/2023 02:13

My ex husband pocket dialed me while he was shagging someone

This. I'm a big boss (director) OP and wouldn't give a flying fuck once you'd confirmed you're OK. She's just a human. And keep it chilled on Monday. It will be annoying if you keep apologising about something so innocuous.

Someoneonlyyouknow · 21/10/2023 03:39

She doesn't know you are drunk. So forget about it. It's really no big deal to her unless you make it one.

givemeasunnyday · 21/10/2023 03:54

We've all done it, chill out. She won't have given it another thought. There is no reason why she would even mention it again.
