Bruising without reason

cloudxo · 20/10/2023 14:57

In 15 hours this is how worse my bruising has gotten, 111 just telling me I'll get an appointment within 3 days without even seeing a photo of it, should I go to a&e or at I being dramatic. Never experienced this so I have no idea what to do

weightbegone · 20/10/2023 15:26

looks like normal bruise progression.

arabellaL · 20/10/2023 15:30

I looks normal but terrible bruises. What happened?

cloudxo · 20/10/2023 15:31

looks like normal bruise progression.

I'd say so if I had done something to cause the bruising but I've not injured myself the bruising is completely random

That's exactly the problem I've not done anything to cause the bruising 🤔

I would go to A and E

abbs1 · 20/10/2023 15:32

I would be going to A&E. May be over dramatic but could it be meningitis or signs of sepsis? I hope you're OK.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 20/10/2023 15:33

Send the images to your GP with the information that you've not fallen or injured yourself. You should get a swift appointment.

gamerchick · 20/10/2023 15:33

Id probably want to get it looked at tbh.

ChickHenLittle · 20/10/2023 15:33

It's not normal OP, not if you've not been injured and they've randomly appeared.
I would probably call 111 to see if I could get booked in to see a GP urgently, and if not I'd have no qualms around going to A&E. I wouldn't leave that unchecked.

What on earth is normal about bruising without reason?

Northumberlandlass · 20/10/2023 15:34

I believe it can be the sign of something serious - I would try & get an urgent doctors appt or go to a walk in centre.

how are you feeling in yourself?

cloudxo · 20/10/2023 15:34

I bruise easily I'm on the low side for iron but never this dramatically

I feel okay in myself, 111 don't seem to be concerned but also haven't seen the way it looks

Is it just in one leg? Front and back or just front?

cloudxo · 20/10/2023 15:38

That leg is the worst I have a bit on the other side and a couple on my bum

If you phoned your GP in the morning would you get a same day appointment? If yes I probably would do that.
If not I would look at out of hours options this evening/tonight

ladymactíre · 20/10/2023 15:39

I would see a doctor asap. That is not normal

macandcheeses · 20/10/2023 15:41

Why have you not called your GP?

I'm in Scotland so I appreciate things are different here but in the first instance I would contact the GP and tell them it is something that needs to be seen today, ask for a nurse if no GP possible. A nurse will always bring a GP through if they need to.

alloalloallo · 20/10/2023 15:42

Have you had a virus or felt a bit off colour or anything like that recently?

A few years ago I had a tummy bug and a few days later woke up with my legs absolutely covered in small purple bruises. It got gradually worse until my entire body as well as my face, hands, etc were covered.

Following investigation my platelets had dropped

I had blood tests daily for about 2 weeks. I was constantly, completely exhausted. My platelets sorted themselves out and all was fine in the end.

I got referred to a Haematologist who thought it was my body reacting against itself following the tummy bug

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a blood disorder characterized by a decrease in the number of platelets in the blood. Platelets are cells in the blood that help stop bleeding. A decrease in platelets can cause easy bruising, bleeding gums, and...

If the bruises are completely unexplained I would go to a and e about this. Not to be alarming but unexplained bruising can be a sign of leukemia so I wouldn't leave this if what you are saying about the bruises being completely unexplained is true. That's bad bruising for no reason.

I contacted the gp first thing this morning when it wasn't so bad, I was told I'd be contacted within 3 days, then I called 111 when it started getting worse

Have you been feeling tired lately?

KermitTheSecond · 20/10/2023 15:46

Don't mean to scare you OP but your legs looks pretty similar to the Wikipedia page for Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura which can come on very suddenly. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrombotic_thrombocytopenic_purpura

I'd go to A&E if you can't get your GP - better to feel a bit silly if it's nothing than to risk it.
