Being called shy

Why am I so offended and hurt that my boss keeps calling me shy? It doesn't seem on the face of it to be an insult- just observing a personality trait maybe? But I don't feel I am shy, annoyingly I am very quiet and reserved around her now because I feel she's assessing my personality whenever I'm in work.
Would it offend you if your boss kept mentioning you were quiet and shy? When you don't think you are? (And other colleagues agree that you aren't)

Yes I hate the ‘shy’ word!

Tell her to stop it.

Shy is not an insult. But more importantly, no-one should be going around constantly commenting on your personality at work. Prove to your boss that you aren’t shy by telling her to stop with the personal comments.

She seems to have a habit of doing it, I've heard her talking to clients about other clients being shy and 'scared to talk to people'. Said client seems quite outgoing to me but just has a nice calming voice (very unprofessional of her to be discussing clients with other clients too😬)

Glad to know I wouldn't be out of order for pulling her up on it

What @sonjadog said.

No, shy isn't an insult.
But I am confused as to why anyone's manager would go around describing people by their personality traits on a regular basis. Different if it came up in a Supervision / probationary meeting.

I’m a fairly quiet person but I enjoy talking to people, never afraid or not wanted to speak or talk to people. I’ve been called this sometimes and always just disagree straight away with ‘I’m not shy’
It’s so annoying to be called shy when you’re not!
