To think Biden is not fit

Watching him right now on bbc news live. I can barely hear him, he's completely unintelligible.

People will call me ageist but I believe he is just getting too old for the top job.

OP posts:
Blueeyedmale · 18/10/2023 22:22

I feel quite sad that his top advisors clearly know he's probably at the start of dementia and letting a frail old man travel around the world, that's not me being ageist I like the guy but I think he's just not up to the job due to medical reasons

HeidiInTheBigCity · 18/10/2023 22:24

He supposedly has had a stutter and never has been a great public speaker! And we ought to disregard this bit!

That said, I do notice he seems to lose his train of thought, and that does seem worrying!

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 18/10/2023 22:29

Agreed. Put him in pyjamas and an armchair and he'd fit right in at a care home,

nobleisle · 18/10/2023 22:14

There absolutely should be an age limit on running the country. Don't care if I sound ageist. There should be.

100% agree with you - or mental health tests. I can't listen to him or watch him. I cringe with embarrassment for him. Out of the 330 million? people in the USA, how in God's name can they only come up with him and Trump. Putin must be sitting watching his telly pissing himself laughing.

I am aware. It's still factually inaccurate to say we did 'nothing'.

No it isn't. The war was basically a coincidence. If Germany had just wanted to exterminate Jews but not invaded other countries I doubt there would have been a war.

I also don't believe that the governments didn't know about the camps. Maybe the average man on the street in the UK or US didn't, but such a huge operation couldn't possibly have been kept completely secret

LadyTrunchbull · 18/10/2023 22:30

Well, he certainly isn't Brad Pitt. 😂

Honestly, yes. Women in the US ARE terrified of another Trump term. The vast majority of liberal people I know (living in a Republican, South state) don't like Biden but knew he was the only candidate who would beat Trump. We are still largely a sexist and racist country so despite the better candidates available to be POTUS they likely would not have beaten the old, white, racist Republican man in the General election, when so many of them are still furious we elected Obama, twice. He riles up the worst dregs of society and convinces them they're right and important.

I do not want Biden to run again. I also want Trump to go to jail. Or die.

But ultimately Biden IS better than Trump would have been, and that was the only option we were given.

But surely there are white men betwen the ages of 40 and 65 that could stand? or is the only choice an ancient pensioner or a woman?

EconomyClassRockstar · 18/10/2023 22:32

It's not ageist at all. Biden is absolutely too old to be President of the USA, and I say this as someone who voted for him. Trump is too. I don't often agree with Romney but I 100% agree that we need younger blood in the highest level of our Govt. I would love to see both parties coming up with younger, brighter people for the next election. But they won't. It will be same old same old.

FrancescaContini · 18/10/2023 22:34

Agree, OP. I was shocked when he claimed that the hospital in Gaza was bombed “by the other team”. OTHER TEAM?? This isn’t baseball, FFS.

RoyalImpatience · 18/10/2023 22:35

We are in a highly sensitive propaganda war with people's who are poorly educated and many brainwashed.

He has to be unequivocal and crystal clear in his messaging.
Every word will be seized on and twisted...

He's mentioned this war like teams??.. He's mumbling, you can't hear him and he sounds weak

Al jazzera said " Biden said the hospital attack was hammas but without evidence".
. He shoud not have said that and allowed then to say that.. He should have replied with evidence.

Parker231 · 18/10/2023 22:39

He was elected as he’d been Obama’s vice president and is hugely experienced. He is now way too old. The USA is in a mess - huge population but have been unable to come up with a competent president.

I’m still amazed that Trump was ever elected - what on earth were people thinking of but hopefully his criminal record will ensure he never stands again although there are a couple of look alikes in the background.

tiktokontheclock · 18/10/2023 22:40

I really want to be able to support him but can't anymore. "The other team" was embarrassing. I can only imagine if he wins he will be doing it for another two years then he will have to hand over to Kamala.

RoyalImpatience · 18/10/2023 22:44

I can't cope very well in a relatively stress free day job without the sleep I need... Imagine how tired he is! Tired, old, he was heading out to talk to many leaders and in the car all hell broke loose...
He's had to change tac, digest the new news... Get new speeches, hear evidence... It's a mighty tough job.

Noorandapples · 18/10/2023 22:45

He's just a figurehead, like every other "world leader". It's the lobbies, corporations and officials behind the scenes that decide how a leader leans politically and what their decisions will be.

SalmonWellington · 18/10/2023 22:46

He's been a phenomenally effective president - getting major climate change legislation, infrastructure funding and even some gun control laws through despite tiny majorities. Far harder to do in the US system than ours, now the Republicans have gone collectively insane.

Just now he seems to have managed to get some hope for aid to get through to Gaza.

He's always glitched when talking - largely because he's talking through a stutter.

RoyalImpatience · 18/10/2023 22:52

I know he has a stutter. That doesn't help when he needs to be strong in his messaging.

DiscoBeat · 18/10/2023 22:56

He was far better than the alternative at the time but given the alternative it doesn't say much. I think there is a point beyond which age and wisdom are a valuable contribution and think there should be an age limit for this job.

Trulywonderful · 18/10/2023 22:57

I thought the Democrat’s plan was to get Biden elected because he’s ‘safe’, boring and appealed to undecided voters, but to eventually switch to Kamala when Biden died or became too incapable? I haven’t watched Biden but sounds like that time is coming near.

This was indeed the plan but KH did not live up to expectations. And there doesn't seem to be any Democrat who might be capable of taking on Trump. It is going to get ugly...

SalmonWellington · 18/10/2023 22:59

Well, his messaging on Israel/Palestine seems pretty pitch perfect. Both from what he's said publically and what his team have let it be known they're saying in private.

Reiterating the alliance with Israel while also reflecting on the mistakes the US made after 9/11, warning that a ground war in Gaza would be a humanitarian catastrophe and saying that '“The Palestinian people are suffering greatly as well, and we mourn the loss of innocent Palestinian lives like the entire world,” the US president said. “The people of Gaza need food, water, medicine and shelter.”

Maybe he slurs his words - the words themselves are sound and that is a hellishly difficult needle to thread.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 18/10/2023 23:00

AncientBallerina · 18/10/2023 16:15

Imagine saying ‘the other team’ - he probably couldn’t find the word side because of his cognitive issues but it comes across as so patronising and trivialising. Anyone can make a mistake but anyone in the role of president should be agile enough to correct it.

He does sometimes swap out words, as a trick to stop a stutter before it can happen. He's talked about this technique before.

He did seem to be low energy in his remarks today, and I think he was maybe starting to lose his voice - he sounded dry and coughed several times.

But I understood him without any issues. And I also thought what he had to say was worth listening to. He was speaking to Israelis, who really like him, about a very somber subject. He's very good at empathising with suffering and addressing the feelings people have in terrible times.

And it seems like his visit has done some good - he's got Israel agreeing to allow in humanitarian aid.

I do wish he were 20 years younger, physically, but his experience and wisdom are invaluable.

SalmonWellington · 18/10/2023 23:03

Exactly. There are good politicians comimg up in the US - Gretchen Whitmer is an obvious example - but it's very hard to think of one who could have managed the cards Biden was dealt better than he has.

Livelovebehappy · 18/10/2023 23:03

I can’t begin to imagine how he copes with doing this job! I’m in my 50’s and find life knackering just working full time and looking after thehome. How the hell does someone his age actually manage such a full on job, which must be 24/7 hundred miles an hour. He looks and sounds absolutely knackered.

Sueveneers · 18/10/2023 23:06

MarkWithaC · 18/10/2023 16:21

What a silly argument. Clearly he was talking about the long period for which the rest of the world DID do nothing, including denying that the death camps existed.

I don't think most of the world knew the extent of these death camps until the camps were liberated.

I've been seething about 'the other team' all day. Such a ridiculous word to use - trivialising horrendous events.

He is far too feeble in mind and body to be president. It beggars belief that he's planning a second term.
