My old work nemesis...

Has reappeared at my new job. Just on a freelance basis. Not in the office. She made my life absolute hell in my previous job during a really difficult period of my life (she was my line manager and knew what I was going through outside of work). I thought I would never have to deal with her again. Should I say something? I'm not sure even if I did that it would make any difference to whether they would keep hiring her but I also worry that if I don't say anything they'll keep doing it. The only thing that is stopping me is I'm concerned it may somehow reflect badly on me to be seen badmouthing her??

Can you talk to current line manager. Think ok to at least say you used to work together. You might be able to drop in a subtle hint. Wouldn’t make it a big thing so you can see how they react. Would you have much influence over whether they extend freelance contract?

I wouldn’t say anything unless she is either in a position of authority over you or you have to interact with her to carry out your current job. If she is, I would mention to your current line manager - just the facts of what happened, try to keep any personal feelings out of it.

You would need to have very specific and easily evidenced incidences of poor behaviour at work before you say anything.

What kind of relationship do you have with your current boss? What power do they have to decide who is taken on as a freelancer?
