Toilet Etiquette

Surely everybody knows to clean up for themselves?

I don't know why people would use your toilet, to leave skid marks, poo all round the toilet seat when there is a toilet brush, bleach and air freshener also in view in the bathroom.

Does anybody else find this really disrespectful?

poo all round the toilet seat
Tbf I would assume that someone who leaves poo all around the toilet seat was crawling out on all 4s so in no state to immediately clean. 😶

UpaladderwatchingTV · 17/10/2023 15:46

Yes! Absolutely DISGUSTING way to leave a toilet, wherever you are! Personally I dislike going to certain hotels like Travelodge, as the last time I went to one there wasn't a toilet brush enabling me to clean up after myself. They say that people steal them, but I find that hard to believe.

Wrongsideofpennines · 17/10/2023 15:48

Do you want to gave a word with my husband?

GalileoHumpkins · 17/10/2023 15:50

No one has ever left my toilet in that state.
Were they scooching their bum around the seat before alighting?

mincepieandcustard · 17/10/2023 15:51

I don't think I've ever witnessed poo on a toilet seat! How does that even happen?!!

ellie09 · 17/10/2023 15:53

I have no idea. Literally on the back of it.

My son used to do this when he was around 3 years old cos he was bouncing around the toilet seat or being careless, and even then the child had the sense to ask me to clean it afterwards.

Its not even just in your own home, I've been in public toilets where people don't flush, there's poo even on the walls. Its disgusting.

In my experience it is the men that don't seem to care! It does my head in!

You really need to raise your standards when it comes to men!

I have literally never had any adult leave my toilet in that sort of state.

Humidititties · 17/10/2023 15:59

I work in construction, many a cleaner has come to the office to say there has been shit wiped on the walls. Pigs

Seawaver · 17/10/2023 16:01

Yes it’s absolutely disgusting behaviour and either deliberate or downright lazy and disrespectful.

DS(8) absolutely hates using the toilets at school as he says there is wee and poo everywhere from all over the toilets to the walls and door. He tells the teachers all the time, he says, when they are particularly bad; and says the kids are all told regularly how to use the toilet and what is not acceptable. Apparently the girls are no better either.

So, good toilet habits and behaviour need to start young if this is anything to go by! But some kids probably like deliberately leaving a mess from what I’ve also heard (some kids have been caught by teachers smearing poo on the walls around the sinks, and one was weeing in the sink and around the sink) 🤮

ChimChimeny · 17/10/2023 16:07

@Seawaver DD avoided the toilets as much as poss at primary because they were from but not to the same extent as her new secondary school. She s only been twice in 6 weeks!
it baffles.me.
I can safely say my DH &DD would never ever leave our toilet in a state like that

Autumn1990 · 17/10/2023 16:25

Unless it’s someone with bowel issues but they should clear up.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/10/2023 16:45

It’s never happened in my house but the worst I’ve ever seen was at Rhodes airport. Shit everywhere in all cubicles. It was bizarre.

Baldieheid · 17/10/2023 16:48

I cleaned in a hotel for a couple of years. Clients were mostly businessmen.

One lovely chap left poo smeared all over the shower wall tiles. Unfortunately for him, he was staying another night.

I cleaned the grouting with his toothbrush.

Resigned immediately after I finished my shift. It was just one shitfest too many.

UpaladderwatchingTV · 17/10/2023 17:03

One of my earliest memories is of going to town with my DM, I needed a wee so we went in the public toilets. I was so desperate to go, that I'd already sat down when I realised that someone had written the word SHIT in shit on the back of the cubicle door, there was still a lump of it with loo roll still attached, used as an exclamation mark! It put me off public toilets for the rest of my childhood, and even now I'm very reluctant, and will only use them if I'm absolutely desperate. My poor DM was horrified. What on earth sort of mentality do you have to have, to do things like this??

I agree with you 100%

ShutTheDoorBabe · 17/10/2023 17:06

In Tesco a few weeks ago I had to report the state of the bogs because there was one toilet filled to the brim with loo roll, another with shit smeared all over the seat and down the front, and the other has a door missing. I wondered if it was some kind of protest against the store or if it was the smack-heads' doing.

No-one has ever left the toilets in my house in that state though.

HeatherMoores · 17/10/2023 17:12

I’ve never understood poo on the walls. How could that even happen.

They should clear up even with bowel issues, why wouldn't they??

My DH has IBS and he wouldn't dream of leaving a toilet in that state.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 17/10/2023 17:17

I worked with someone who said he'd lived in a squat in Paris where people had used their shit to write graffiti on the walls.

I think you'd need to have something very wrong with you to do that.

You need to clean public toilets. Women's toilets are a million times worse than mens, don't get me started on sanitary products 🤢

Actually come to think of it, we have public toilets at work and yes, the amount of blood and used sanitary products left around are disgusting.

ellie09 · 17/10/2023 19:08

Yes you're right! We had a girl somewhere I used to work who continuously smeared her period blood all over the toilets, on the walls, the hand dryers etc to the point the cleaners were refusing to clean them. I don't blame them.

When we finally caught who it was, she was sacked.
