Need advice please wise vipers!

Is this a fair price for the work quoted or am I being had?

Because I’m absolutely useless at anything builders or diy

For us to come in on Monday afternoon/Tuesday
We will rip out kitchen ceiling and re board rip out bathroom floor and relay but not fix down as plumbers might need to get under them for waste pipes etc
This will be £1830
This includes the kitchen ceiling being plastered

This includes joists and boards and ripping out a false ceiling and replacing the false ceiling

Depends how big the room is surely. Is that including VAT or has that yet to be added on?

Catza · 17/10/2023 12:50

Seems about right. Plastering is a difficult and time-consuming job. I also assume this includes the cost of materials and they are sky high at the moment. My partner is a builder. I expect after paying his labourer, materials and taxes he wouldn't be getting more than a couple of hundreds left over for a few days of work.

That's including VAT. God I wish I was better at this shit

2 days work plus disbursements sounds fair.

By comparison, I had a kitchen ceiling (2.5m x 4m) pulled down, reboarded, and plastered, quite recently. It cost £800, incl. VAT. I’m in the North-West.

Yeah I'm in the north west too. I think it's because the joists are all fucked and rhe boards in the bathroom are original to the house (1700s) and they're all fucked too. Most of them have holes in, and he's fitting me in around the bathroom fitters because it's an emergency (ceiling fell in last night)

I think even if I'm being totally fleeced I'm not in a good place to barter because Right now we have no shower, no bath and no running water because of the pipe that burst. No one can fit us in any quicker than him. We're literally living in a travelodge

Yes, I think it’s a fair price. My kitchen is small, not complicated and you’re having more done.
