ladies- if you shave your face....

Tell me about it.
Am I missing out? Has it changed your life?
I'm fair haired but have 'peach fuzz' along my jawline. I've never actually bothered about it regular social media adverts made me wonder if it was missing out on something life changing. Now I'm wondering if I should dabble but I'm scared there is truth in the old "it'll grow back darker/thicker/longer..."

Share your face shaving wisdom please.

I use those littler dermaplane face razors on and off. It doesn’t grow back darker or thicker, that’s a myth for all hair.
cutting hair off above the surface can’t change how it grows on a structural level.

Lamelie · 15/10/2023 21:21

Have a go! It’s doesn’t grow back thicker. I’ve done it a few times (5/6) and although I like the effect don’t do it regularly.
I have an incredibly invisibly hairy face 😂 out of interest I harvested it all last time and it was two tablespoons full
It gave me a much sharper jawline- didn’t go near my upper lip as I hated the idea of a stubble there- it’s so fine as it grows back I didn’t notice elsewhere. I use these

I did it because of dark hair on my face, it does grow back coarser and darker. I've now started getting laser hair removal instead, which is so so much better.

Lammveg · 15/10/2023 21:24

I've done it before but much prefer waxing!

XenoBitch · 15/10/2023 21:25

It had never bothered me.. and now the social media posts and ads are making me think that I should be shaving. Even the comments on the ads are from women saying you are lazy if you don't shave.

Honestly, if it has not been an issue before you saw the ads, then if it is bothering you now... the ads have achieved what they intended.

greengreengrass25 · 15/10/2023 21:31

I've just used the sugaring stuff

I find it gets caught up with my hair by my ears.

I hate the hair

This is exactly what has happened. I have been a marketer's dream! I've never, not once thought "oft, I've got a hairy face" but now I've considering shaving!

Blonde fuzz here, been shaving my face for around 7 years. Hasn't grown back thicker or coarser.

I bother around every couple of weeks while in the shower. Use a nice cleansing cream or even hair conditioner.
Just keep a totally separate clean razor for your face, don't mix up with razor for your legs.
Slap some moisturiser on and you'll be fine.

Do you get a stubbly effect on your jaw line?

OP posts:
Lamelie · 15/10/2023 21:36

No- but I wouldn’t notice as I don’t lick my jaw!!

Leumurshavethumbs · 15/10/2023 21:38

I have recently started shaving my face (thanks peri!). I can clearly see the difference between the peach fuzz, and the thicker, darker hairs on my upper lip and chin. Both return within a few days of me dermaplaning. But the lip and chin comes back as stubble, whereas the fuzz comes back imperceptibly. So my strategy now is I wax the upper lip (at the edges) and the chin, and shave everywhere else. I find it too difficult to get the wax strips right under my nose and over my lip, so the little razors take care of that!

merrymelodies · 15/10/2023 22:16

5 o'clock shadow! 😂

happylittlesloth · 15/10/2023 22:18

Make up goes on so much smoother

hellohelp · 15/10/2023 22:30

I do it before wearing makeup (not often) down the fuzzy bits at the side.
My chin and top lip I do more often but do wish I hadn't started as they've come in thick and hard now. I don't mind keeping it up but it's a bit annoying and embarrassing if I'm honest.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/10/2023 22:34

I do it at least once a week - I am honestly a human monkey I am so hairy. I use the little blades linked above, and then go over it with an electronic trimmer thing from Boots.

Betruthful · 15/10/2023 23:36

I dont shave my whole face but i do my upper lip and my mole that grows long black hair.
My mole hair is very noticeable if i dont shave it left it for a week once i could almost twiddle it.

lljkk · 16/10/2023 00:00

um, imho, if your facial hair needs removal you'll notice. Ignore the ads if you haven't actually noticed any change. Barely visible fuzz is normal for most females.

I knew a lady (mid 70s?) who had a proper full beard start to appear. Bristling white hairs everywhere. Really striking. Then it would go away so I know she tackled it once in a while.

Curlylo · 16/10/2023 00:12

I have done before but my skin is so sensitive and it was very sore after

canyousmelltoast · 16/10/2023 01:11

I've been shaving my "eyebrows" off for 17 years. After the first time they never grew back properly, just sparse hairs here and there. Those are no darker or thicker than they were. I've been shaving off moustache hairs, peach fuzz (cheeks & chin) and excessive sideburns weekly for about 5 years. They all grow back in as they were. Definitely hasn't make anything worse.

AgaMM · 16/10/2023 01:16

I used to wax my facial hair (light tan skin with dark hair - so very obvious for me!) but then I got laser which massively helped.

With the facial hair I have now, I dermaplane right after a shower every couple of weeks - more for exfoliation rather than hair removal.

Why on earth do you shave your eyebrows off?

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 16/10/2023 02:12

My cousins daughter shaves her entire face for facepainting and creative looks. She is very fair with blonde hair, the peach fuzz just goes back to its regular hair afterwards.

canyousmelltoast · 16/10/2023 02:13

@CustardySergeant I shaved them off completely at the age of 17. They've never grown back properly, just random small sparse clumps of hairs. I had microblading done about six years ago. She missed my natural brow line and went higher. The tattoos have faded to red. The sparse hairs don’t go high enough to even try to grow natural brows back and cover the red.
PSA don’t ever fuck with your eyebrows.

canyousmelltoast · 16/10/2023 02:15

@CustardySergeant to answer your question, I have to shave off the random hairs so that I can draw proper eyebrows on with liquid eyeliner without it looking very weird.

HoppingPavlova · 16/10/2023 02:15

Why not wax or have laser treatment?
