ladies- if you shave your face....

Tell me about it.
Am I missing out? Has it changed your life?
I'm fair haired but have 'peach fuzz' along my jawline. I've never actually bothered about it regular social media adverts made me wonder if it was missing out on something life changing. Now I'm wondering if I should dabble but I'm scared there is truth in the old "it'll grow back darker/thicker/longer..."

Share your face shaving wisdom please.

I don't have any noticeable facial hair (other than eyebrows) but I do sometimes have a good close look in a shaving mirror to make sure it's not that I do actually have facial hair but am unable to see it, as my eyesight could well also be failing (I'm 48).

I just trim stray hairs around my eyebrows every now and then with a sort of mini electric razor pen thing.

Graciebobcat · 16/10/2023 08:56

I have to say the body hair I do shave has never grown back thicker. In fact armpit and leg hair seems to appear a lot more slowly than it used to.

Boundoverbyacat · 16/10/2023 08:58

No, it’s impossible for it to grow back darker and thicker. All it can be is blunter.

It’s totally up to you. I do because I get some dark thicker hairs but I also get rid of the fuzz because

a. It’s so satisfying
b. It helps make up go on much more smoothly
c. It’s a good exfoliator for dead skin

don’t do it because you feel you have to though!!

Bobby80 · 16/10/2023 09:10

Thank you for all your experiences. I’ve learnt a lot!

Fuck me. Is there a bit of me now that I don't need to shave??
What’s left, ear lobes? Or have I missed some teens where I’m look 10 years younger if I wax those too?

TheChosenTwo · 16/10/2023 09:28

I did it once, about 5 years ago. Got a facial dermaplane thing in a beauty box and I had quite a bit of light peach fuzz around my jaw and sides of my face. It worked fine, grew back the same but never bothered with it again. It doesn’t bother me and I can’t see my own face!
No one has ever commented out loud about my peach fuzz, I choose to ignore it as I’m just lazy 😂

felisha54 · 16/10/2023 09:47

I've been dermaplaning mine for several years and it's easy peasy. Doesn't grow back thicker ime. My dd has been asking my to do her moustache which I did and the hair hadn't grown back darker or thicker. I like the Hollywood browzer ones. Was paying about £14 for 2, but I've bought them in home bargains a few times for around £4.

Wexone · 16/10/2023 10:15

lucky dont need it but rest of my body is like a monkey so much hair. spent a fortune waking etc. so 2 years ago made the decision to do laser. every month or so I go for a combination of electrolysis or laser depending what's needed. my bloody hair even though super darker has been stubborn to laser even though other friends have needed less sessions. 🙄 have now hair free legs (full) feet and toes ( god hated my hairy toes ) getting underarm arms and lip now will do above my brows and bikini next. have to say this summer has been freeing to not worry about my legs. I have done a payment plan once a month with the clinic so that's helped with cist plus they also do deals on what am getting done. working out to ve same as my waxing costs but getting less each time

Luddite26 · 16/10/2023 13:33

I'm 51 and have loads of fair peach fuzz and always had a hairy chin etc. I use cream hair remover once a week for chin and round my mouth.
But I am maybe old fashioned but no way would I shave off the peach fuzz.
And anybody who has a problem with that can go rot.

But I was really cross when my dd26 said her partner told her she needs to start shaving. I bought her a derma planer and she uses that but I don't see why she should.
I may be wrong but I thought shaving just makes you more stubbly.

Don't rush into it and be a slave to the razor blade!

Saverage · 16/10/2023 15:06

I do it every 7-10 days, takes about 2 minutes with one of those little razors. I've been doing it for years, I wish I had started earlier rather than just thinking 'women don't shave'. Waxing was too harsh and I'm not keen on hair-removing chemicals. It doesn't get thicker with shaving.

I think if you have visible long peach fuzz you are aware of it, it's not about marketing persuading you into removing it. I can quite clearly see when it needs doing again.

Pamcakey · 16/10/2023 16:36

@DiscoDragon ohhh I definitely will look into that! Happy to travel a fair way for that price too. Whenever I’ve looked before, it was about £120 a session (I would need upper lip, chin and neck) and due to coarse facial hair, they said it would need to be 10-15 sessions. However £20 a pop would be well worth it!! Thank you

fitnessmummy · 16/10/2023 16:41

It won't grow back thicker or darker but it WILL feel stubbly! It's not for me

Pharos · 16/10/2023 16:43

My hair's too light for laser treatment so I do a v light shave of upper lip and chin about once a fortnight. I react to hair removal creams so this is the quickest and cheapest way to keep on top of them.

Pamcakey · 16/10/2023 16:46

@DiscoDragon I’ve fairly recently moved 200 miles, there’s a clinic about 10 miles away. I’ve keyed my partner up for it for Christmas. If this works, I swear I will cry, it’s plagued me for 15 years.

You're welcome! I couldn't believe the prices either, when I'd looked into laser previously it cost thousands. I had actually gone into my local beauty salon to ask about electrolysis and the lady in there told me it would cost more than the lasers and said she got hers done at Laser Clinics UK. It's been brilliant, I'm so happy with the results.

It had plagued me for years too, really coarse black hair all over my chin. I've tried everything over the years from hair removal creams and wax strips and plucking and shaving and it all just seemed to make it worse. I've spent years walking around hiding behind my hair as I was so ashamed of the state of my face, I've had about 4 sessions I think now and the 5'o clock shadow and constant razor rash is gone and my chin is so smooth! I can still fill the odd prickly hair but they don't seem to be visible any more and it gets better with every session.

diamondpony80 · 16/10/2023 17:34

I used to use the Finishing Touch Flawless Facial Hair Remover. It worked fine but I prefer dermaplaning razors now as they're faster. I do it maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks. I get quite a bit of peach fuzz around the sides of my face and it doesn't grow back any thicker.

greengreengrass25 · 16/10/2023 17:37

I sometimes use a springy stick for lip and chin which adds like a threader

Has anyone used an epilator on their face rather than a dermaplane

Pamcakey · 16/10/2023 20:15

@DiscoDragon ohh very envious, I hope I get such good results!
Partner has set me up with an initial 4 sessions which start next month and will tide me over to my birthday when I can get some more (I’m rubbish at spending money on myself!)

Honestly, it might sound dramatic but I’m so grateful. No more skulking about if people stay over or I stay at someone else’s to shave before they see me, no more feeling self conscious if I let my skin have a day or two break from shaving, no more panic when I use the work bathroom and realise my razor had gone blunt and done a crap job that morning. You genuinely may of changed my life!

Hair removal creams/strips never worked for me. Epauletting reduced it and I could shave less but it never got it all and my skin would go all sore and spotty so I ended up back shaving within a week.

Bippertyboppertyboob · 16/10/2023 21:10

Peach fuzz here too! I spent years using facial hair removal creams and burnt my skin several times. I now just use my husband's electric razor. Done in seconds and no after effects at all. I wish I'd done this years ago.

QueenAstrid · 16/10/2023 21:17

I use the JML Flawless, it’s fab. Makes my skin look much smoother and grows back just as it was

threecupsofteaminimum · 16/10/2023 22:05

I noticed how hairy my face is about a year ago but I'm fucked if I'm shaving it.
