ladies- if you shave your face....

Tell me about it.
Am I missing out? Has it changed your life?
I'm fair haired but have 'peach fuzz' along my jawline. I've never actually bothered about it regular social media adverts made me wonder if it was missing out on something life changing. Now I'm wondering if I should dabble but I'm scared there is truth in the old "it'll grow back darker/thicker/longer..."

Share your face shaving wisdom please.

I do. It's great for the peach fuzz at the sides, but I also grow chin chairs so it's great for that. My husband has no idea so I've agreed with my sister to deal with it if I'm ever in a coma

LuvSmallDogs · 16/10/2023 02:58

I currently shave my all the facial hair below my eyes because after chemotherapy stopped making me bald, the fact that it's screwed my hormones means that it's grown back denser and longer than before.

I use cheap bics and moisturiser on a wet face. I don't need a smoother than smooth look, just not a weird lanugo look.

stayathomer · 16/10/2023 03:07

Thanks for this op, I have light hair and I always wonder how noticeable it is. Husband randomly (without knowing!) confirmed it

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 16/10/2023 04:01

I'm learning a lot today.

Why not wax or have laser treatment?

It's much easier to do it at home and also less expensive. If done properly it has the benefit of removing dead skin cells too.

Outwiththenorm · 16/10/2023 06:23

The adverts have got to me too 😞 But I also think the peach fuzz increased after my last pregnancy as I’d never noticed it before, and it definitely does cause makeup to look clumpy.

Pamcakey · 16/10/2023 06:27

I shave.
I grow a lot of black facial hair and shaving (daily!) is the only way I can keep on top of it.

I’ve tried threading/waxing but it irritates my skin too much and more is cropping up within a few days anyway. I can’t really afford/justify laser - I bought a Philip lumea which did nothing and to do it professionally would be over 1k.

I hate it though, it’s embarrassing.

KimberleyClark · 16/10/2023 06:29

I’ve shaved my chin hairs for years. No ill effects. But peach fuzz?? One more thing for women to beat themselves up about. I have peach fuzzy fair hair on my forearms too but I don’t shave them and never will.

Lemons1571 · 16/10/2023 06:30

Laser treatment doesn’t work well on peach fizz if it’s white or very light coloured. It’s much more effective on hair with melanin in it (I think that’s the word).

It's optional

PrawnBhunaandaFlirtini · 16/10/2023 06:35

I do! I have some coarse chin hairs on only one side of my face 🤔. I get them off and do the peach fuzz which I get all over my face while I'm at it. I definitely prefer it being off but it can be a bit tedious having to do it all the time. I've booked a lip and chin wax for a couple of weeks time so I'm letting it grow at the minute 😬🧔

Iirc though, the lip and chin waxes don't get it all off anyway and it is more expensive. But I'm willing to give it another try to avoid the twice weekly shaving

PermanentTemporary · 16/10/2023 06:36

I shave once a day but because of dark bristles (pcos). If the peach fuzz never bothered you before, I wouldn't touch it. It won't be darker or thicker but won't it feel rougher because you've sliced off the ends?

Phillips Lumea did reduce my shaving from twice a day and eliminate some small patches completely, but as a pp said it won't work on light hair.

CloudyAgain · 16/10/2023 06:36

I have a patch on my chin that is dark and shave that daily and sometimes twice a day. I use shaving cream and a normal razor. I need to get it properly dealt with my a laser but never have the spare cash!

blibblibs · 16/10/2023 06:43

I shave every day, chin, sides and top lip but that's because I've always been hairy faced.
I use the lumea occasionally but only in winter as I'm worried about pigmentation in the summer. I've noticed if the sun shines you can see how far up my face I go due to the peach fuzz but I do leave that alone.
DH knows so hopefully it won't be too much of a surprise if I end up in a coma!

Lucky you, my arm hair is dark and thick like a blokes. I shaved it as a teenager after getting teased and never looked back.

madeinmanc · 16/10/2023 07:26

I have previously shaved it but the problem is that if you don't keep up with it, it looks worse to have stubble there (not because it's thicker). So IMO only start if you're someone who keeps up with things and isn't lax about things.

This is genius

Almondmum · 16/10/2023 07:39

I've genuinely never seen the adverts but I developed peach fuzz in the last year or so - presumably peri menopause. It was bugging me so I got those little razors for your face and shaved it off. It took ages for it to grow back to a point I noticed it again and it was exactly the same - no stubble, not darker.

I actually find it quite satisfying shaving it off. My skin feels nicer after too.

However you absolutely shouldn't be shaving it off just because of an advert or some comments on an advert..if it's not bothering you leave it alone. My arms are quite hairy but they don't bother me so I've never shaved them!

Moredarkchocolateplease · 16/10/2023 07:56

I shave mine. I started having my face threaded in my mid thirties but then it got too expensive and painful.

I buy bags of the face shavers off amazon.

My hairs come back in exactly the same way as when I was threading them. Dark and wiry on my chin and light and fluffy elsewhere.

I'd I didn't shave them I'd need to pluck twice a day as the chin/jaw thick black hairs grow back at different rates.

I have pale skin but you can still see them.

rocknrollaa · 16/10/2023 08:11

There is no truth in it growing back thicker. It will be fine.

That’s fair enough if you don’t like it.

I remember when I first saw Marina Sirtis in Star Trek TNG and thought she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. Then saw her in a scene where she was bare armed and her arms were hairy. And I thought if she wasn’t bothered neither would I be.

UtterlyButterly2048 · 16/10/2023 08:28

I have Dermaplaning every 6-8 weeks. When I hit peri, I developed a rather alarming tash, plus a few witchy chin hairs 🤦‍♀️ I started off waxing, but I have really bad hyperpigmentation and the waxing made that worse. Dermaplaning gets rid of all the hair, including the peach fuzz, makes make up go on better and doesn’t make my hyperpigmentation worse. The hair hasn’t grown back any different in the 2 years I’ve been doing this. DH knows and doesn’t give a shit. Will sometimes ask if I’ve had my face “planed” because it looks “well smooth” 🤣🤣🤣

You should find out if you have a Laser Clinics UK near you, they are a big company and their laser treatments are cheap as chips. All through the summer they had a half price sale on and I had about 4 sessions done for £17.99 each. The last session cost me £21.50. It's been absolutely life changing for me, well worth £20 a month.

LumiB · 16/10/2023 08:41

I have one of those dermaplane tools from amazon its super cheap and works. I get a few dark thick hairs just under my chin so need to get rid of them. They don't leave stubble behind. It takes a few seconds after shower to do. I then did the rest of my jawline and upper lip anyway - makeup definitely sits better.

I could use wax or get it lasered but waxing it hurts so I'll avoid that. Laser is super expensive, I would probably never buy the same amount in dermaplane tools for my entire life.

Spreadthehappiness · 16/10/2023 08:49

I occasionally shaved my face . It does not grow back darker or thicker . Makeup applies nicely . I find it grows back quickly though and I get lazy shaving every second/third day so I only do it occasionally when I want my makeup to look extra smooth .
