Normal after flu jab?

Had my flu jab yesterday. Get it every year and normally feel a bit feverish and rubbish for a few hours but nothing major. Obviously always get a sore arm. This time I've felt fine apart from a really painful arm, when I've checked it this afternoon it's got a big red rash all the way around, it's also got a big hard lump about 10cm all the way around. It's now getting really itchy and warm to touch. I'm hoping it's just where it's healing but has anyone else had this?

It sounds like a reaction to something in the jab.

I've had the big hard lump but not the itching - just very painful to touch. Have you tried taking an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen?

XiCi · 15/10/2023 20:25

I had this a couple of years ago and ended up with a horrible reaction, hot and itchy all over. I don't mean to alarm you but I would start taking anti histamines straight away if it happened again

@CesareBorgia unfortunately I can't take ibuprofen. I will start taking an antihistamine though. It didn't start itching until about an hour or so ago so almost 20 hours since the jab.

It's a known side effect it should be on the patient information leaflet

rainbowunicorn · 15/10/2023 20:30

Did you not get given a patient leaflet when you got the jab

holeymoleymacaroli · 15/10/2023 20:31

I wasn't given any leaflet afterwards, I had it done at the drs surgery but there were such long queues that it was just straight in to get the jab and straight out again.

Yes, a known side effect. An antihistamine will help. This happened to me on my first series of Covid vaccines. I traced the circle on my arm with a pen to see if it got bigger.

I had this for a few days, don't worry!
