I live about an hour away for sil. Our kids are same age so we sometimes meet at a weekend at parks, soft plays. She often says to me to pick where to meet and I usually pick somewhere fairly close to her. So maybe a 20 min drive for her, 30/40 min for me.

This time i suggested somewhere closer for me , about 20 min and it's 35 min for her. She agreed so I've paid. Now she's saying it's a bit far to drive.

Do I point out it's the usual distance I travel. I would have thought it was obvious!!

Say you've paid, and you didn't think she'd mind doing the longer journey this time.

Theunamedcat · 15/10/2023 07:52

Say that's a shame I'm sure I can find someone else to come instead

Gifgirl · 15/10/2023 07:56

It's probably never occurred to her that you are driving further. Some people don't mind driving. For me, 40 minutes drive is nothing, whereas one of my best friends would see those that as a days driving.

I wouldn't make anything of it.

Just say "I've paid now, so if we can meet there this time, I'll make sure to find somewhere in the middle going forward."

PartnersInCrime · 15/10/2023 07:59

That would annoy me greatly. Have you paid for all of you or just your family?

happylittlesloth · 15/10/2023 08:06

Point out its how far you usually have to drive

CaineRaine · 15/10/2023 08:10

I’d reply “It’s no farther than I usually drive to our meet ups. I’ve already paid so will still be going, let me know if you’re still coming”.

This exactly.

Mummumgem · 15/10/2023 08:14

Have you paid for her too, I assume so, and she refunds you later ?

I think I would shrug and say “i suppose it is a bit nearer me this time but we’ve been to a lot up near you and I thought we could try a new place?”

I would take mine anyway and see if a friend could go with you with the other tickets.

next time she suggests going suggest she selects the place and books (in a nice way )

All but she's will pay me back.

@MuggleMe s message and next time pick somewhere nearer you again or bang in the middle.

You are planning her weekend entertainment for her children and she can't be bothered to drive and extra 10mins.. ? Not cool

webster1987 · 15/10/2023 08:33

'Ah sorry, I normally do that drive for our other meet ups so didn't think it would be an issue. If you don't want to though, just let me know as I'll still be going'

PartnersInCrime · 15/10/2023 10:40

Hope you've sorted it and have a nice day. By agreeing to it, she must have known what she was getting into and it's hardly far...

She did come. I think she doesn't realise. She also went shopping after. I think she was trying to make most of the day!
