To think Starmer seriously needs a better haircut

The current hair is just awful, a weird 50s throwback style. Why isn't the Labour party hiring people to style him to look (and sound) professional for leadership? It's not enough these days just to be yourself and jog along. It's serious.

He looks good for 60 I think.

Yes, but how good does But Jeremy Corbyn look for 74?

Amazing.

verdantverdure · 13/10/2023 09:41

MrTiddlesTheCat · 13/10/2023 07:48

I hear it's currently on trend to have a 70s perm and a mullet. That'd win him a few extra votes.

There's a town about 20 miles away where one time I went all the men and boys seemed to be wearing grey joggers and black padded jackets which really struck me so I always look around for the next male fashion phenomenon, and the last time we went loads of younger men and boys seemed to have a permed fringe over one eye.

Janiie · 13/10/2023 09:59

It's funny, folk suddenly deciding that image isn't relevant when we've had Johnson's hair constantly mocked since 2019, Truss was a lettuce and let's not forget her outfits in Russia, wearing a hat of all things. Dorrries continually mocked for her clothes, speaking and manner in interviews. Mogg plus his kids sneered at for looking like 'pencils' or 'victorians'.

Yet suddenly we have to be all very serious when we have ridiculous looking grinning quiffy Starmer, his overly curled and terrible public speaking deputy. There's no one to redeem them in their ragtag bunch.

Image matters. People have to look and sound confident and convincing. Labour will get in because of the media and lefty celeb's successful 3yr smear campaign. Then sadly we'll wish all we had to worry about was quiiffs, overly tonged hair and terrible public speaking skills.

IClaudine · 13/10/2023 10:53

Starmer and Rayner's Conference barnets don't seem to be putting people off, quite the reverse.

Westminster Voting Intention:

LAB: 47% (+2)
CON: 24% (=)
LDM: 9% (-2)
RFM: 8% (=)
GRN: 6% (-1)
SNP: 4% (+1)

Changes w/ 4-5 Oct.

Labour will get in because of the media and lefty celeb's successful 3yr smear campaign

Oh, is that why Max Hastings has said he is voting Labour?

Janiie · 13/10/2023 11:05

Max Hastings Grin

Well I don't know why he's voting Labout but did apparently in 97 and 2001 a quick google tells me, so I'm not quite sure why his opnion matters he clearly chops and changes. I'd understand if you'd said BJ was voting Labour .

pointythings · 13/10/2023 11:19

@Janiie did you just say the UK media is predominantly left wing?

😂

SplendidUtterly · 13/10/2023 11:25

ThreeLeggedKitten · 12/10/2023 04:12

I think he’s quite attractive but would never co fess that in real life

My mum fancies him too so you aren't alone 😂

Crikeyalmighty · 13/10/2023 11:29

@IClaudine I'm afraid @Janiie is realising that a lot of voters are very fickle- especially centreist voters who aren't that political. They vote with their pockets and 'feel' , Brexit hasn't 'helped' loads of average earners in the ways they were promised and lied to, quite the opposite and I think many realise Johnson was just in it for himself and his ego- and they totally blew it when it became clear it was all favours for mates etc and they were somewhat all fur coat and no knickers. I don't think most people think labour will be amazing because the Tory's have basically bust the country- partly covid which wasn't all on their shoulders, but certainly Brexit- all on their shoulders . I think just a change of 'vibe' and a semblance that the government give a shit about public services will be enough for most people to start with.

pointythings · 13/10/2023 11:32

I think the mortgage paying voters in the Tory heartlands hit by Truss' mini budget may also be a tad peeved.

Agreed.

Crikeyalmighty · 13/10/2023 11:59

@pointythings yes, there's that too- people on tight budgets bought up to their max but based on 2 and 3% mortgage rates- and it's all very well people saying well they shouldn't buy unless they can fund it on 7 and 8% rates- most people simply can't buy in vast areas of the country based on that - and indeed that's now the case-

There are a lot of expensive houses for sale in the SE. People do not forget being whacked in the pocket for £££ and up a month.

verdantverdure · 13/10/2023 12:33

Yes, I live in a Tory safe seat and it isn’t a safe seat anymore.

The Tories mini budget of a year ago put £800-£1200 on mortgages round here and we are not fans of that. It’s like an extra tax.

bombastix · 13/10/2023 12:37

That is also true in my seat which was formerly very Tory. It now looks like Labour will take it at the next election.

Truss was mad. She did her nutty budget to force interest rates up. That would hurt property owners. Tory voters.

I often wonder who the Conservatives are for. Mostly people who do not have to meet their own bills or pay mortgages, it seems.

All that mocking didn't stop people voting for them in droves though, did it.

verdantverdure · 13/10/2023 12:45

Meet him.

Explain in detail with supporting evidence from a dozen accredited sources why the proposed government policy on the issue will cost a fortune, not help, and will in fact just make people’s lives worse.

Feel heartened when he seems to understand the issues, asks the right questions, take things on board.

Watch in disbelief as he ploughs forward with the policy.

Then slowly realise that he understood everything you said perfectly, but making people’s lives better or spending public money effectively were not the aims of the policy.

That’ll sort you out

AdamRyan · 13/10/2023 12:47

Truss was a lettuce
That wasn't about her image, it was about her staying power and proved entirely correct Grin

verdantverdure · 13/10/2023 12:49

This is about Michael Gove. I’ve no idea why it hasn’t attacked to the post I was replying to.

@Janiie have you worked out why it doesn't matter to you that Sunak and Johnson broke the law and repeatedly lied about it?

Hahahaha... nothing to do with Lying Johnson, Truss tanking the economy, Partygate, Zahawi avoiding paying millions in tax, Mone fleecing us all for £122million, rise in foodbanks (or is it pantries?!), rise in child poverty, bigoted Patel and Braverman, the mysterious ERG who have broken the party... shall I go on?

Yet it's all Labour's fault they are down in the polls. That is so so funny 🤣😂

Fortunately the number of people who believe that drivel about the alleged "lefty" smear campaign is rapidly diminishing.

Personally, I thought democracy allowed an 'opposition party' to challenge the Government. Silly me! Obviously not!

Crikeyalmighty · 13/10/2023 14:43

It does make me laugh all this going on about lefty smear campaigns. Most of mainstream printed media is right wing- even the BBC it seems these days.

Presumably all that rubbish going around pre Brexit about 3 million Turks before Xmas , cheaper food and shoes and mass Facebook posting about sovereignty and other such crap wasn't the work of 'right wing' forces then?? Or doesn't it count if it's right wing propaganda and aligns with your views ?

beguilingeyes · 13/10/2023 17:00

Aside from the print media, which is almost solidly Tory. The Express, Mail and Telegraph rabidly so, you've got a Tory at the helm of the BBC and (ex) political editor Laura Kuenssberg who practically swooned whenever Johnson was around and gave away the postal vote results for the last election while it was still embargoes.
