Kept waiting for test results

So in a nutshell. We have been waiting for some test results for several months. Doctors secretary confirmed results were finally received Friday afternoon. Almost Thursday and we have been given no information regarding the results of the tests. The secretary and the doctor know how incredibly anxious we are to know and how long we’ve been waiting. We’ve chased twice just to be told we should get a call this week. AIBU to expect that they should have contacted us by now?

For context, there has been several serious delays which I believe are bordering on negligence on behalf of the doctors throughout this process over the past few years. They’ve lost medical notes, miscommunicated important medical information and have failed to progress with our case as they should have.

Speaking from medical experience as work in a hospital as admin support, cardiac tests for example… some actually take over a year to happen, then they take months to be reported on, then it’s a case of the dr having time to fit you in to tell you the results! Unfortunately it’s getting more and more common and the only way you can get answers quicker is to complain via PALS!

Generally speaking, we understand how busy the doctors are and appreciate that we aren’t their only patient. However, when we’ve waiting this long already and they know that they have dropped the ball in quite a big way throughout the process, surely the least they can do is give us the information that we know they have. Why tell us they have the results unless someone is going to tell us what they actually are? Feels so cruel

Do you have a clinic appointment to receive the results face to face or over the telephone? Or is the plan the Dr will call you with them when time allows?

Check the nhs app , all my test results and letters from consultants etc are on there

We have been told the doctor will call us. We asked for, but we’re not given, a specific time/date for this call. The lack of communication/misinformation we’ve received throughout the process has been unreal. The doctor we are dealing with is not a specialist in the area the tests concern but is our only contact so we are reliant on them to give us the information. It’s just so frustrating. We honestly aren’t the type of patients who think that the whole world revolves around them but we have genuinely been messed about so much, I just think we should be more of a priority than we appear to be. Seriously thinking about putting in a complaint.

I would use the energy from the frustration to file a complaint. As you stated your case has been mishandled. Who knows how many others? I hope you hear back soon and it's good news.
