To not clean my humidifier

This is random but I’m fed up of absolutely everything being work. I have a newborn baby and bought a humidifier as he has a stuffy nose and have read in the instructions there’s a thorough weekly cleaning process.

what’s the risk if I don’t do this?! Is the water dirty? I actually can’t with the newborn, everything is work at the moment with sterilising and doing the washing let alone looking after the baby. I’m getting fed up of it so AIBU to not bother with this?

I discovered last year that my dehumidifier has a filter. I've had my dehumidifier since 2011 and it has been used a lot (I used 3/4 a week to dry the washing inside) and it still works so I wouldn't worry about the reliability but I did feel a bit yucky about my distgusting ways.

On a side note, I'm not sure it will help a snuffy nose in a baby?

Dehumidifier , as yours is, removed moisture from the air. A humidifier, as op is asking about, adds moisture to the air. You can also put additives in such as menthol which an help with stuffy noses / breathing problems.

Ah yes! Ignore me (apart from me being distgusting!)

In my experience as a lazy person who puts off cleaning things until they get gross, humidifiers get manky inside. And then they will be spouting that up in tiny little droplets for you to inhale. It’s definitely worth cleaning them.
