So nothing biblical.

For me today it was ASDA, 1pm on a Sunday, event going on nearby so huge amount of traffic to get in, even longer queues inside, screaming kids, adults barging by you, having to queue for customer service.

Anything else would include cave diving, pot holing or being on a submarine.

I'd add

Having a period and realising there's no tampon. And just feeling a wet patch - and dashing to find a toilet.

Seconding nightclubs, loud venues etc and crowds. People are so irritating and walk like ants, no sense at all.

sockarefootwear · 09/10/2023 09:40

Excluding actual life threatening experiences, my 2 experiences of the rings of hell have been:

  1. Taking MIL and baby DD on a weekend road trip to visit her relatives. 5 hours in the car with DD being travel sick whilst MIL tutted and heavily implied it was a result of me 'insisting' on breastfeeding. Followed by 2 days making small talk with strangers. Then many hours at a busy shopping centre on the way home (having foolishly agreed that we could 'pop in') trying to manage DD whilst MIL went in to every shop looking for gifts for all her friends.
  2. Standing on a packed commuter train home from London just before Xmas when a man who had clearly had a few too many at the office party projectile vomited cider and blackcurrant.

And tell us a "fun fact" about yourself !

Being excited to go on a boat trip then remembering as the boat leaves the harbour that I just can’t go on boats. Taken me 50 years to accept this fact.

RicherThanYews · 09/10/2023 09:43

@Wheelyfembot I hear you and I snorted reading your post so ty 😂

Willyoujustbequiet · 09/10/2023 09:44

Saturday night in crowded A and E when you have Salmonella that's exploding all over the place but there's only one toilet and you are too weak to stand.

amusedbush · 09/10/2023 09:44

Anywhere crowded, but especially supermarkets. The added stress of manoeuvring around trolleys, staff members leaving cages in the middle of every aisle, and feeling like I'm in someone's way no matter where I stand... my chest feels tight just thinking about it.

Last year, DH convinced me to go to Costco on the 22nd December and it was a fucking hellscape from start to finish. I'm autistic and was on the edge of meltdown the entire time; I was non-verbal with the stress and DH had to steer me to the only quiet aisle (garden equipment - not popular in December!) so I could stim/self-regulate. Even just trying to drive out of the car park was absolute clown shoes.

In fact, it was so bad, I cheerfully let our membership lapse.

Living with my ex husband

horseyhorsey17 · 09/10/2023 09:45

Sitting on a plane/any form of public transport with someone sitting next to me eating a tuna sandwich really noisily and a kid (or adult) behind with their phone at full volume listening to hideous music while they kick the back of my seat.

miniaturepixieonacid · 09/10/2023 09:46

My own worst environments/fears:
Aeroplanes
Airports
Lifts
Restaurants
Big Shopping Centres
Nightclubs

And then things I haven't experienced but that I imagine would be hell for me:
Anything in the air (hang gliding, parachute jump, helicopter, skydiving etc)
Bungee jumping
Extreme unsheltered heat (Australian Bush, Dubai etc)
Submarines, deep sea diving etc

And of course things that are hell for everybody:
War
Death
Poverty (incl famine and homelessness)
Natural Disasters

Or two truths and a lie, guess the lie...😖

Cringing so hard at the memory of this!

Christmas

romatheroamer · 09/10/2023 09:49

Like a pp nod to so much on thread.
Being strapped down and made to watch GBTV...imagine Lee Anderson interviewing Suella.
Gatwick Airport.
Lucky to have had only day procedures in hospital but don't think I'd like a longer stay.

sqirrelfriends · 09/10/2023 09:50

I’m with you for all of those OP.

I’ll also add: Oxford street near christmas, Lego land (at any time) and busses full of school children.

YfenniChristie · 09/10/2023 09:50

The post natal ward. While I was recovering from an emergency csection and having been awake for 2-3 days, I had to listen to one women threaten to burn the hospital down with everyone in it if they didn't discharge her immediately and another woman loudly recount, in graphic detail, to everyone on the phone and in the room how badly she tore. Genuinely traumatised from my experiences and hope to never stay on one again.

Adding to that - my current situation of having to deal with an unwell child AND an unwell husband. Am surrounded by a cacophony of coughing, spluttering, whining and at night, snoring. Lucky I feel well, but I am pretty permanently touched out, overstimulated and overwhelmed. 😩😭

Role play at training events!

CharlotteBog · 09/10/2023 09:55

Working in either our local Sainsbury's or the M&S/BP. Both are SO cold. I would hate for it to be lovely weather outside only to have to put a coat on to go to work. Obviously if you're working a chilled environment then you would expect that, but it makes no sense to me in a regular shop.

Marketers spend billions trying to entice custom, but honestly, I cannot wait to get out of those shops. I don't browse.

I acknowledge that I must be in the minority otherwise I presume they wouldn't do it.

Magicpaintbrush · 09/10/2023 09:58

Benidorm

Driving in central London

A room full of massive spiders

Job interviews

A social event full of awkward small talk with strangers

Convoluted travel plans

extraterrestrials invading earth and earth not having the military might to protect earth.

If aliens have the technology to travel faster than light (which would be needed to get here in a reasonable timeframe) though Einstein suggests this is not possible, they would be so much more advanced than us, that we wouldnt stand a chance.
tbh it is illogical to use huge resources to travel the galaxy, only to destroy when you arrive. Any race so war like would most likely destroy themselves before they had the technology required to get here.

quantumbutterfly · 09/10/2023 10:02

Piccadilly line at rush hour in summer,
Museums at South Ken in school holidays
Supermarkets on Christmas Eve

Basically hot or tired or desperate hoardes of people.

Justgivemeasec · 09/10/2023 10:03

People making noise near me- playing music on the beach, neighbours tv/music, children playing loudly, people shouting- basically any noise made other people!
