So nothing biblical.

For me today it was ASDA, 1pm on a Sunday, event going on nearby so huge amount of traffic to get in, even longer queues inside, screaming kids, adults barging by you, having to queue for customer service.

Anything else would include cave diving, pot holing or being on a submarine.

I take it this is meant in a trivial sense?

Anything involving public speaking or group work with overbearing people who are confident but utterly incompetent. Pointless. No need to put shy people under undue pressure just so loud people can massage their ego.

Working full time whilst raising kids that won't sleep properly and your days off are just drudgery with the odd hour of actually having any time for relaxtion/playing with your kids. Basically my life now.

Trying to get care and support in place for a disabled child via an LA that is utterly useless and at worst underhand and penny pinching (but able to spend thousands of money on 'art' and vanity projects in your town instead).

I feel guilty writing all this though as the situation in Gaza and Israel is much more close to hell on earth. My partner spent time in war zones. He doesn't worry about things like I do. Maybe I need a dose of that kind of worry to appreciate what I have and not sweat the small stuff.

Do tell.

Don’t know Sheffield but DD lives in a terrace in north Leeds between Roundhay and Chapel Allerton, she is the envy of her friends, and it’s a great place to live.

There’s Leeds and Leeds.

is that because her friends are from Sheffield?

And isn't Chapel Allerton the where "The Long Shadow" is based?...

ZachsDad · 09/10/2023 09:12

Shopping on a Saturday lunch time.

Maireas · 09/10/2023 09:12

@Mikimoto - genuinely I don't understand the problem with living in a terraced house in Sheffield or Leeds. Many thousands do? Is it worse than living in a terraced house in Leicester or Coventry?

MuggleMe · 09/10/2023 09:15

A birthday party for 5yos, 25 children and 25 adults in a too small hall with an entertainer and the expectation of small talk.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 09/10/2023 09:19

Anywhere where the background noise is intense. Swimming changing rooms, softplay, big echoey rooms with lots of people talking all at once. I find it really hard to hear the other people I'm with and it makes me feel a bit overwhelmed. Unfortunately I like swimming, my daughter loves softplay and you can't really go out without going into big echoey rooms with lots of people all talking at once!

Being made to go on a spa day.

Me too. Absolutely hate them and public swimming baths.

Popping into m and s food to grab some nice bits for the weekend to be greeted by an XL bully dog sniffing around. Least I was able to leave my hell on earth quickly!

Oh god. That's going to be the next thing isn't it. Big burly scary looking bloke with an XL bully (or any other scary dog) insisting on taking it into a food shop, claiming it's their assistance dog. And who's going to argue - most retail staff are female and aren't going to take one of these thugs on.

I don't get the camping thing either but have seen the explanation just above. I don't like over the top luxury either, but there's a happy medium of a nice hotel or B&B with its own (inside) bathroom Grin

ThomasinaLivesHere · 09/10/2023 09:24

Taking care of a child when feeling really unwell. That was me a few days ago. I’d take any busy shopping, car park situation over that.

Errr no. Neither of us know Sheffield beyond Meadowhall and she has no friends from there.

The Long Shadow was filed in Wortley and I think it was based on Holbeck and Beeston. Clearly you don’t know Leeds at all 😀

@CarterBeatsTheDevil

You can get ear plugs for concerts and gigs that reduce the sound levels whilst still being able to hear clearly - really useful

Salisbury Hospital day ‘care’ ward opened up at night, one poor nurse completely overwhelmed by multiple old men vomiting and shitting themselves. One of them being my gentle and kind father. He didn’t live long after that, didn’t want to.

Alton Towers and their queues from hell!

RicherThanYews · 09/10/2023 09:29

Post natal ward of the hospital where my only son was born. The bed next to me had 2 women looking after one new born who wouldn't stop screaming, rather than picking up the baby they sang at her for 48 fucking hours, loudly.

Note that I have one child.

TicTac80 · 09/10/2023 09:30

The DC and I love camping (it's our main way of taking a family holiday due to costs)....however I HATE car tetris and and I hate having to pack away in the rain (luckily this doesn't happen often) as I then have to re pitch the tent in the garden to ensure it dries off properly.

In the past, I hated Immunology lectures (loved A+P, biochem, micro, haem, etc etc).

Soft play, whole class parties for 4/5yr olds when you've just finished a third night shift in a row and the Entertainment Bloke/Clown/Local Celeb would draft you in to participate.

Being short staffed at work.

KeepingitzippedforBro · 09/10/2023 09:34

Hell on earth is spending time with my SIL.
She has been rude, sly and down right twatty.
After the most recent experience I will never spend time with her again.

Also, tourists. I live in a very busy city that attracts thousands of tourists all year round.
They have a habit of just stopping in front of you to take a picture.
Now I think about it might be crowds I dislike.
But yeah, don't stop dead in front of people ffs 🙄

Definitely agree with Sartre as a ND person, nodding at so much of the list 😮

Being new in a workplace, especially when you're markedly different to the others. They're quite close knit, chatty, social, etc. and there's endless chatter about fun things (particularly involving active outdoorsy stuff, baking and children). Constant Teams messages full of gifs and corporate cheerleading.

Meanwhile my chronic pain is kicking in with my fake smile and the expectation of another meeting, then there's a fun quiz and the team leader - who's super switched on, all manic grin and staring eyes and a bit clippy - wants me to introduce myself and tell the team a bit about me. All eyes on me.

Argh!

This.... working with people you get along with is so important. I can feel the horror as I read.

KimberleyClark · 09/10/2023 09:37

Following on from the poster who likes camping I thought I’d explain why I like cruising. Not those god awful floating tower block monsters with thousands of passengers that don’t really feel like ships when you’re on them, I prefer smaller quieter ships of 700 passengers max. Adults only. No enforced socialising or “fun activities” if you don’t want that, just relaxation. And smaller or more out of the way places that the aforementioned monster ships can’t or won’t go to. Sunrises and sunsets at sea are like nowhere else.

Beebumble2 · 09/10/2023 09:40

meganorks · 08/10/2023 23:46

Cruises. Just float round on a massive ship seeing feck all until you get 4 hours in a really lovely destination along with 5000 others at the exact same time. The rest of the time you are trapped with a load of randoms some of whom will probably want to try and make friends shudders

Totally agree!
