Would you be weirded out by this?

Got a birthday card delivered. No name on the envelope, only my address. Opened it to find the birthday card just read "I love you sexy". It was my partner's birthday yesterday so that makes sense but why would they not put his name on the birthday card, or say who it was from? It's weirded me out if I'm honest.

Weird

Cazzovuoi · 08/10/2023 17:22

Teenagers playing a prank?

NoNoHellaNoNoHellaNoNo · 08/10/2023 17:22

Have you asked your partner?

CesareBorgia · 08/10/2023 17:22

Either a secret admirer, or he's having an affair with someone who wants you to find out. Or a stupid prank from one of his mates. Have you asked him about it?

AIOAU · 08/10/2023 17:24

He's at work today so not asked yet, plan to ask tonight. The thing I find most odd is why would they not put his name on the envelope? It's been stamped at a sorting office near his home town - we moved over 100 miles from there 10 years ago. So bizarre.

Ok so...

Prank

Or

Random admirer

Or

He's having an affair and the ow has done this because she wants you to discover what's been going on.

Are you aware of any troublesome exes from his home town?

AIOAU · 08/10/2023 17:30

Yeah maybe a prank but I don't know how they would have our address? And yeah definitely a few troublesome exes from home but again don't know how they would have our address? It's completely creeped me out haha.

Could be a prank by a work colleague? Was there anything on the card that would allude to it being a prank, like a funny message on the front?

Daffodilwoman · 08/10/2023 17:32

Someone wanted you to open it?

CesareBorgia · 08/10/2023 17:32

Probably not hard for an ex to find out his address.

Fireisland · 08/10/2023 17:32

No name in the hope you would open it, so somebody wanting to cause trouble between you and DH. Whether it's an actual OW is another question, but obviously it's somebody who knows his birthday and address.

Has he pissed anybody off recently?

Riva5784 · 08/10/2023 17:35

Clearly a prank, but yeah weird.

AIOAU · 08/10/2023 17:36

Nope it's a cheap generic card - just says "Have a very happy birthday" on the front. Yeah I can't see any other reason why they wouldn't have put his name on the envelope. People are weird.

He's at work today so not asked yet, plan to ask tonight.

But it would've arrived yesterday surely, unless you get Sunday post?

AIOAU · 08/10/2023 17:42

No, we have a mail box out the front so doesn't come through the door. I haven't checked it since Friday so wouldn't been delivered yesterday.

affair possibly or lads joke etc

MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams · 08/10/2023 17:49

Put it back in a plain envelope and let him collect the mail next and see if he mentions it.

ginasevern · 08/10/2023 18:00

@MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams

At first I thought that was a genius idea but he might be tempted not mention it in case it causes lots of niggling questions and general upset. I would hand it to him and see what his reaction is.

MysteryBelle · 08/10/2023 18:43

Keep in mind that if he were having an affair, it is not likely the woman would send a cheap card saying I love you sexy on it, whether she was a serious love interest or someone who had affair but he ended it, because the former wouldn’t do something that dumb looking, and the latter wouldn’t seek revenge by saying she loves him and thinks he’s sexy.

Also, the lack of a name points to someone who is not a love interest, does not have an intimate bond with your husband, and doesn’t want to get in trouble or associated with placing a name on envelope.

So, I’d say it is a third party who wants to cause trouble. You’ll have to do some digging to find out if it has any basis in anything untoward your husband’s done, or if someone is angry at you or him for some unhinged reason.

It sounds like something a teenager or teenagers would do for a prank. But there will some kind of weird reason behind it.

Have you or your husband celebrated a success or happiness recently? An enemy gets really mad when a person is happy or possesses something (tangible or intangible) that the enemy doesn’t have and wants.

If it is an affair, it will be a third party who knows about and has sent the card.
Are you on social media? The envelope was posted from your old hometown. If someone saw you post something happy, they may have sent this in spite. Do you have frenemies from there? Did you mention h’s upcoming birthday on social media?

This is perfect!

StHilarion · 08/10/2023 19:00

Have you upset anyone. Over 30 years ago I sent a card with similar message to the husband of a woman who had been absolutely horrible to me. I had a friend in another town post it. All these years later and I still feel guilty about the grief it probably caused for that innocent man. Never felt sorry for her though because she was a cow. They did weather that storm but a few years later he did run off with a friend of hers.

Thepeopleversuswork · 08/10/2023 19:08

There's no way an affair partner would be this blatant unless they deliberately wanted to force his hand and get him busted.

I'd say chances are it's a prank. If it is someone he's sleeping with/slept with they are trying to get him into trouble.

larlypops · 08/10/2023 19:11

I send my friend birthday cards addressed to rude random things, do it every year so could be an innocent prank
