It's 23 degrees in the NW. This isn't normal.

Why? It’s was same temperature here last year. In fact warmer

Glitterblue · 08/10/2023 14:08

19 on the north east coast - I don’t like this at all. I want proper autumn weather - it’s to be 18-19 overnight tonight 😫

Caspianberg · 08/10/2023 14:09

We were married mid October, it was a scorcher of about 28 degrees. Some guests got sunburn

Bloody gorgeous isn't it. We usually get decent weather in October, I remember getting sunburnt one year.

16c and rain here. Standard Sunday weather when trying to get uniforms though the laundry.

Caspianberg · 08/10/2023 14:13

@Kallister - it is getting warmer globally. I’m not denying that. But the end of September and beginning of October has, historically for central often been warm. Hence the term Indian summer.
Some years it cooler, some warmer.

It's making me feel so agitated. Already medicated and this is horrible. My mind keeps thinking about the ice caps.

@Kallister we've had loads of rain here.

AnnieP1 · 08/10/2023 14:33

Thoroughly disappointed here in the East Midlands - 18c and cloudy having been expecting 22c and sunny according to the weather forecast.

The silver lining is it's keeping my heating bills down.

DrCoconut · 08/10/2023 14:35

It may not be freezing cold but the light has changed. It's not got that nice summery quality about it that usually recharges my batteries, and combined with getting dark early it's really starting to get to me already. I think having had so little sun over the "summer" hasn't helped as there was no opportunity to build reserves. I will be so glad when Christmas is over and the days are lengthening again. I do know climate change isn't good but I'm not seeing anything extraordinary here at the moment.

StillWantingADog · 08/10/2023 14:35

I’m also in the nw. Is nice while it lasts (and great for ladybirds given how many we have in our garden) but deeply worrying.

I recall nice days in October previously, but never over around 18 degrees

I'm sure there are parts of Scotland happy to share it around a bit.

It's not unusual

I remember 20 years ago it was oct half term and the kids were out in shorts and t shirts. We were looking at old photos a few days ago and I remarked on it

This day last year was similiar to today

TheresaBouvey · 08/10/2023 14:50

My birthday is early October, and it is almost always nice weather.

I expect a last few weeks of warmth by end of September

Not a climate change denier btw!

I just don't see the point of people like OP getting themselves into an unhealthy mental state over something they, as an individual, cannot control.

I really feel for people with climate anxiety, every time it is unseasonably warm, or there is a heatwave, people now have panic attacks Sad

The panic attacks do not help the climate change pattern though. It makes me feel worried about people with anxiety Sad

Weather is changeable and weather is not the same as climate.

Today's warm weather is not necessarily a harbinger of doom, it's not that unusual for this time of year

I’m also in the NW ( near Manchester) and the temperature in my house as shown on my Wi-Fi thermostat is 17.5 degrees, no idea what it is outside as I’ve not been outside yet and don’t have a thermometer anyway! I guess my house must be a cold house as I don’t get much direct sun.

I do remember very warm Octobers though, my birthday is the 4th October and I have worn summer clothes to my party ( as a child) or sat outside a pub in the sunshine. Often there has been a cool spell and I’ve put away my summer clothes so had to dig out something to wear when the weather warmed up for a few days. As a teacher, I also have memories of our Y7 pupils sweating in their new uniforms for the first week of term, wearing shirts, ties and blazers on a lovely warm sunny day.
