It's 23 degrees in the NW. This isn't normal.

Yeah let's party because the south is stupid hot and the north rather unusually wet - luckily no lives lost as far as we know

Imagine you are on a ski run
The start is quite gentle , a bit thrilling but nothing unpleasant

But there is a huge cliff coming up and you are hurtling towards it with glee

That's what's happening - and it seems that until you lose your home to flood or your child to heatstroke or any of the other hugely bad things that are baked into our future -you don't seem to be able to see that cliff - and when you get there you'll all be in here asking why nothing was done

Thoroughly disappointed here in the East Midlands - 18c and cloudy having been expecting 22c and sunny according to the weather forecast.

I'm in Tamworth - it's been sunny and hot - managed to get loads of washing dry!

Not unusual though - DD1's birthday is the 7th and we've had many hot birthdays! One when we went to London and we where sweltering on the tube sticks out and that was 12 years ago

JaneyGee · 08/10/2023 18:44

I'm in Essex and it's unbelievable. It's the 8th of October ffs and I'm sitting hear sweating. I went for a walk earlier and it was like a muggy afternoon in mid-July. Over the last year or so I've become genuinely scared about climate change.

PinkRiceKrispies · 08/10/2023 18:46

25C in London. So fed up of it now. My room is like a sauna.
This isn't normal at all and I am really hoping that tomorrow is the end of it.

Booklover40 · 08/10/2023 18:46

It’s normal. Not usual but normal. I’m 40 and can remember lots of Indian summers, maybe you’re too young to remember OP?

Im so relieved anyway as my boiler is fucked.

bevelino · 08/10/2023 18:47

MariePaperRoses · 08/10/2023 14:23

Indian summer. It's lovely.

This, I am loving it.

It’s not going to last and I am making the most of it.

Desecratedcoconut · 08/10/2023 18:48

Well, at least your ski run is particularly pleasant at the moment. If the drop is inevitable it seems the preferable option to permarain. And washing strewn around the house drying. And side eyeing the central heating on an evening.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/10/2023 18:48

If you want facts about typical temperatures for near your location for a given month, rather than memories, which can be false, then https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/historic-station-data gives max and min temperatures for each month for each location over the years.

We have had it warm in October before I'm sure it has been about 27C one year, I suppose soon there will be endless threads moaning about the cold and having to have the heating on.

This is interesting, I love this, thanks for the link. Although now I am legitimately unimpressed having had almost double the rainfall in September this year compared to '61.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/10/2023 18:53

September was joint warmest on record, matched in 2006. The mean central England temperature is running 4.7c above usual so far in October. This year we are running 1.6c above average so far.

Globally, last month was the warmest September on record.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/10/2023 18:54

You're welcome Desecratedcoconut!

PinkRiceKrispies · 08/10/2023 19:01

It's not just a one off which is why I am worried. In London, September was horribly hot throughout and October has so far been muggy/warm too. The odd day throughout the month is not unusual but to have it prolonged for so long is a concern.

LetsPlayShadowlands · 08/10/2023 19:01

It's not 'glorious'. Its shit. Especially when the buses all have their heating on.

Clarabe1 · 08/10/2023 19:05

It’s been a beautiful day. Got lots of washing dried and I am looking forward to my nice fresh line dried bedding later on. Its not unusual, I am 50 and can remember many Indian summers. Sadly it’s not going to last, rain forecast.

SconeChick · 08/10/2023 19:13

Where I am in central Scotland, it's been pouring for 2 days, everything flooded, local river burst its bank and bridges closed. Heating is on and we're hating the wet. I'd give anything for unseasonably warm and dry weather right now.

andtheworldrollson · 08/10/2023 19:38

So you would trade some nice weather now for much worse weather in the coming 10 years?

Desecratedcoconut · 08/10/2023 19:55

There's no negotiation though is there, who are we doing this deal with? Climate change is inevitable, you may as well enjoy your nice day. It's not like I'll get a get-out-of-climate-change free-pass in ten years time as a treat for having a grottier October.

PinkRiceKrispies · 08/10/2023 21:26

It's October and have the window wide open, can't get under the duvet as it's too hot and we are meant to celebrate this and see it as a good thing. It really bloody isn't.

PinkRiceKrispies · 09/10/2023 22:04

House is like a sauna again. It's absolutely insane

User174085934 · 10/10/2023 06:05

It was fairly warm where I was, about 23 or 24 but I still warmed my bed with the electric blanket.

User174085934 · 10/10/2023 06:09

Where are people that it is so hot, I'm near Bedford so in a fairly warm area

vonryanstricycle · 10/10/2023 06:23

WhateverMate · 08/10/2023 14:34

The silver lining is it's keeping my heating bills down.

Me too - NW

Parakeetamol · 10/10/2023 06:25

It's 23 here but the forecast says it's going to drop to 17 after today
