My husbands younger sibling just got married. He couldn’t afford celebration expenses so between me and my husband we contributed around 300 which was fine.
but now another sibling came up with the idea of contributing towards their honeymoon. Initially we said depends how much, but now they’re saying it’s getting expensive 500/600+. They want to split equally but I am currently on mat leave. so we said maximum between my husband and I we would contribute 150. But they are not very happy as they want to gift it and think we are being stingy.

I would not contribute at all. I would say, 'No I don't want to do any joint gift, I will just get them something from myself.' That's it really, nothing more to discuss or think about.

@WallaceinAnderland this was my initial plan anyway but

You've given your present...end of story. That's it...nothing more..

WandaWonder · 07/10/2023 22:53

Just say no, you can't blame anyone else for 'they make me feel bad' or however it should be worded you have the right to say no so do it

DaleksAreTinCans · 07/10/2023 23:03

Did you not tell them you paid £300 as a gift already?

Kardelen · 07/10/2023 23:26

@DaleksAreTinCans I don’t think my husbands only told them 200. And now he just told me he bought other things as well worth up to 150 but won’t ask for the money back, or tell them either. So they probably think we are stingy, but spent the most.

😂😂😂😂

Kardelen · 07/10/2023 23:34

@coxesorangepippin Dont know if my feelings of feeling annoyed is valid. As I have been trying to budget me and my kids spending. or if I’m just being a b… as it’s a one of thing.

That's so ridiculous.

The suggestion. Not your feelings. Just for the record. You've done enough.
