To ask if anyone has found anything that works for Reynauds?

I have horrible Reynauds in my fingers and toes every winter and with the weather getting colder it's going to be back soon.
I have hand warmers and gloves and thick socks etc but hoping someone has come up with a miracle?
So if any fellow Reynauds sufferers have found a way to ease the symptoms I'd gladly hear them.

Thank you @CrashBangWallow, that’s a good idea.

Mustardfan · 06/10/2023 20:29

regular exercise

galliton · 06/10/2023 21:33

Do the wrist warmers work despite the fingers not being covered?

Alicenwonderland · 06/10/2023 21:49

I didn't suffer as badly when I was on antidepressants funnily enough. My Mum takes beta blockers and this stopped hers.

Startyabastard · 06/10/2023 21:49

I've got to say that nothing but the medication helped me. Other things like wearing gloves 'took the edge off' but having icy hands in the hottest of summer weather is not pleasant. I've had the issue as long as I can remember, but my negligent parents did nothing about it (they knew how severe it was).

Does anyone get mottled too? I've always had mottled skin and then just a few yers ago developed Raynauds (though not as bad as some on here it seems) I'm thinking of getting checked out as apparently you should see a doctor if you developed it past 30. My feet are a horrible shade of dark purple too-they look horrific but I don't know if this is Raynauds, something to do with being mottled or something else entirely! I have no physical symptoms just my skin looks horrible.

Strangely when I put on some weight it got better! I guess I have more insulation now.

Wineocloc · 06/10/2023 23:19

I just looked it up and it is a thing! So if you have a low calorie diet which I did and low body weight, it can affect you more.

Amandiland · 06/10/2023 23:23

My doctor has me eliminate caffeine and it does help. Also, wearing a scarf wrapped around your neck helps to regulate it as well. I wish you good luck, it is very tough to live with.

I'm early 50's & been on Nifedipine since I was a teenager - twice daily in summer & three times daily in winter. Makes a huge difference.

JeresaLove · 06/10/2023 23:29

Wearing mittens instead of gloves has worked for both me and my MIL, we had both suffered for years. Go for faux fur lined or fleece lined ones, with enough room to slip a hand warmer inside for extra toastiness.

purpleme12 · 06/10/2023 23:49

I wish I could take the tablets but I'm actually on blood pressure tablets anyway (not nifedipine) I'm not sure they'll want to change my blood pressure tablets when the high blood pressure is probably more important than the reynauds.

useitorlose · 07/10/2023 00:06

I moved to the middle east, that worked! Now I only get symptoms in the supermarket freezer section and when chopping veg straight out of the fridge.

NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz · 07/10/2023 02:09

I have heated gloves. You can buy them for cycling or for motorbikes (and they’re probably better quality) or you can buy cheap ones on Ali Express or Amazon. You need a power bank to plug them into and the cord goes up your sleeves (like kid’s elastic to stop them losing the gloves.). You can get ones that have two separate cords or ones that require only one connection. I have found them both equally good, but I prefer the two cords so I’m “balanced out” by having a small power bank in each pocket. I have some like the photograph attached and on REALLY cold days (or wet days - I find low air pressure really exacerbates my Raynaud’s) I shove them into sheepskin mittens or thermal-lined gloves (slightly bigger size of course.)Sometimes the thermal-lined gloves are enough too. I live in Aus so can show you what I’m talking about, but not sure if available there.

My daughter gets this on hands and feet! I don’t, but I get Raynaud’s . I wonder if they are linked.

Me too. I wonder if they could change it to the one that works for Reynaud’s as well. I don’t see why not. I’ll ask at my next review (if I ever get one- kind of given up on the NHS now)

Putting on weight helped me.

This never occured to me. I've always suffered badly in the colder months, but for the last 2 years since becoming a peri menopausal fatty nothing.....every cloud!

Possibly yes-a lot of it is autoimmune related I think. Although I know being mottled can be completely benign as well so it could just be one of those things-especially if the person is fair skinned.
