To have cancelled the order

Last Friday I liked something on vinted and within minutes the seller messaged me asking if I was interested. She said if I purchased the item that she would post the parcel the same day or the day after at the latest. She wouldn't accept offers which wasn't great as with postage/fees it was over £15 but I liked the jumper and thought at least I'll have it in a few days. I bought the item and she reiterated that she'd post that day/the following day. Fast forward to yesterday and it still hadn't been sent. I sent a polite message asking if it had been posted yet as I know tracking doesn't always update. She ignored me, I know because I sent the message yesterday afternoon, had no response, checked her profile this morning and saw she'd be active an hour before. I've just messaged her again and her response was that she hasn't been able to post as she's been ill and that she'll definitely post tomorrow.

I'm normally a pretty chilled out person but it's pissed me off, especially as I only bought the jumper because she said she'd post straight away. Obviously I don't know for sure but it doesn't seem genuine, otherwise why ignore my first message. I feel like cancelling the order as I can't stand liars

Title should read "to cancel order"

Cancel it, yes. And screenshot all messages first in case she blocks you!

Summersover2 · 04/10/2023 23:11

I like to think I'm an understanding person and if she had messaged and explained that she was ill I probably would have believed her but not when she ignored me.

Yeah I'd cancel

Hersecretserviceyourmaj · 04/10/2023 23:12

Cancel it then. She's misled you.

JennaLi · 04/10/2023 23:13

I mean you don't actually know if she's lied, but either way it wasn't sent when she said it would be. But, she has a week to post it to be within the vinted guidelines hasn't she? So I suppose it's up to you, I couldn't cancel something I wanted just to spite a stranger. Depends how much you want it.

Summersover2 · 04/10/2023 23:20

@JennaLi yes normally it doesn't bother me and I never message sellers asking when the item will be posted as long as it's posted within vinted's timeframe but she specifically said she would post that day/the following day and said how much interest she'd had in the item so it would be better to purchase as soon as possible if I liked the jumper. Honestly if she had messaged me and said she was unwell I probably would have believed her and let it go but it's the fact she didn't even bother to let me know that she hadn't posted yet and then ignored my first message (she was online so no excuse imo)

This isn't a big deal. Cancel, things happen. It's a jumper!

OrigamiOwl · 05/10/2023 00:24

Wouldn't cancelling give you some sort of black mark with Vinted? Sellers have a week to pay so she won't have broken any of their rules...

CleverLilViper · 05/10/2023 00:49

Personally, I think you’re unreasonable to expect her to accept offers so that you can use that to cover postage. Not a sellers problem or responsibility.

If you want to cancel, go ahead but unless you need the jumper by x date does it matter if she hasn’t sent it straight away? Things come up.

I’ve had numerous sellers tell me the same thing and then post later- never once crossed my mind to cancel. I also only purchase from people with good feedback so I know it’s likely not a scam.

Tambatamba · 05/10/2023 00:54

Vinted rules state that the seller has 5 days to post the item. If they don't post it, you get your money back and they get automatic bad feedback. This is a time of year when a lot of people are getting ill so she might not be lying.

Also, if you don't like the price of something, don't buy it surely? Vinted annoys me sometimes because it's full of buyers who expect you to make a special trip to post something that they've paid pennies for. With the cost of petrol, I'm certainly not going to do it.
