Disney Land Paris - Bed Bugs?!

Hi Mumsnet!

I am an Aunt to two lovely pre-teen nieces and am due to travel in 3 weeks to Disney Land Paris via Euro Star but I am anxious (af!) due to the latest news regarding bed bugs.

I myself suffer from OCD and the thought of bringing anything back home with me, or the girls getting bit etc, is really troubling me. My concern is we’re using public transport whilst we are there and I don’t know if I’m panicking for no reason.

Anyone currently in Paris or traveling soon that can paint a clear picture of the situation?!

You can get zippable mattress covers for around the whole mattress that are supposedly anti bug.

That still leaves the possibility of bugs in the back of head boards etc though. I think you're supposed to check those with something magnifying. There is a lot of info online. Also talks about luggage etc.

Following as I'm going to DLP in 2 weeks! I also have OCD but I'm focussing my worry on the crowds not the bed bugs 😂apart from checking the sheets before unpacking I'm not sure what precautions to take.

Not sure if this helps as you specifically mentioned transport, but for hotel stays I've heard that keeping your luggage in the bath/bathroom is a way you can help prevent them getting into your things and brought home.

Another tip is to store your belongings in ziploc bags within your suitcase so that if they do breach it, there is another barrier between your items and you only need to treat/throw out the suitcase rather than everything in it.

I got back from Disneyland Paris on Saturday after 4 days there, I stayed at the Sequoia Lodge and we had no issue at all with bed bugs. With the crowds issue we found that making use of the magic hr in the morning (if staying in a Disney hotel) was a godsend and to make use of the evening too as most rides after about 7pm have very short queue times and the busy ones like crushes coasters wait times drastically drop around an hr before it closes

I haven't read the whole thread but we use a tape lint roller. Before we take anything into the room, we move the mattress off the box spring and use the tape lint roller around the seams. Remove the sheet and pad down to the mattress, do the same, Go behind the headboards with a flashlight and look and use tape lint roller on back of headboard and carpet. If you have bedbugs, little black spots will be in the seams of the mattress, box spring, behind the headboard and floor. If you have them, do not bring your suitcases in at all, if clear on the tape, you should be safe, though you can also check drawers, sofa bed and chair with lint roller. I can't help you on the public transport though. I also bring a small pack of bleach/disinfectant wipes and go over the door knobs, light switches, faucets, toilet flush handle, phone, remote (especially), clock buttons and drawer pulls. But that was because, at WDW, we heard of too many cases of Norovirus going around and I wanted to do what I could and those places are frequently not wiped. We did manage to avoid the Norovirus too (though I ended up with strep--go figure!)

I travel for work (to nice hotels) but every place I go I put luggage straight in the bath & then look on bed mattress seams using a credit card & phone torch

Heading to Disney too in November. Hopefully they will have this under control. Staying in Sequia Lodge.

Never put your luggage on the bed or carpeted floor.

And I would stand on public transport, unless the seats are plastic.
