Got a mate who I dont see very often as he works away. DP knows him and we have been out together a fair few times.

In a couple of weeks he is back and I am going to a gig with him as he can get tickets. DP cant go as that is his weekend with his kids. I have mine here but DS (17) has agreed to baby sit so I can go. DP and I dont live together by choice.

Was on the phone to DP and I mentioned "Oh I am going to X with DMate at the end of the month" ok no problem. Except a female collegue overheard and said that I should have asked DP if he minded. I said would she expect me to ask him if it was a female friend and she said no, but I should have done as he might not like me going out with another man.

I laughed and said that he didnt mind and anyway he isnt that insecure, and she got the right hump about it!

I dont need to ask permission right?! Why would she think that I should?!

Actually I may have answered my own question.......maybe she has the hump because I laughed and said that he isnt insecure and therefore she took that as me saying she IS insecure if she would need to be asked in that situation or that her husband is....hmm....

You'll get a lot of people telling you it's wrong to be going out with a male friend if you're in a relationship but I'm with you ..... no need to ask permission and you're doing nothing wrong.

None of her business. How does she know what kind of relationship you guys have? Maybe she would ask her partner but you don’t have to.

It really depends on what kind of relationship partners have. Some would ask, some not. You are not doing anything wrong. Have fun!
